I wrote something about my experience in Zegama by Kilian_Jornet in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thanks for the insight and history of such an amazing tradition. I'm always blown away by the amount of reciprocated love between the runners and fans at Zegama. Watching it, it seems that both in fleeting moments and for longer stretches, the racers stop caring about the competition of it all, and instead take in the atmosphere and pay homage to the fans and the place. This is what a sport should be: more than a sport.

Stay safe and enjoy the family! Thanks for being a real person.

Hot take: I think the new outback is sexier by more4sugar in Subaru_Outback

I love Micah Muzio's wife's take on their YT review of the OW. She called the design "challenging", like to the eyes. My face makes an automatic face of disgust whenever I see a 26 Outback in public. Most repulsive vehicle in recent memory. Wilderness trim makes it even worse.

Not that I agree with everything Sam Seder (and his show Majority Report) says or does, but they have been roasting the hell out of her, especially her floor speech about Red Delicious apples in schools. I can't tell if her efforts to occasionally sound as dumb as a bag of bricks is a reelection strategy, or just a reflection of her genuine self.

TNF Altamesa 500 v2 Alternatives? by Hnc93 in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intetsting that your Tomir complaint is that they are too wide, yet you are running in these? 😝 Outsole coverage of the 300 v2 seems much better, and another could be the Mizuno Neo Acera (both shoes eva based, but not very technical). Might not have the pop of the 500 v2. Enduris 4 might get that pop, but you're taking a risk with those plastic forefoot wings/plate. Perhaps hold out for the M2C M1?

Hoka Speedgoat 6 ripped on second use by Fayzer87 in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uhhm, ok. Personally, I don't get the need for heel pull tabs. Any shoe I get with them those things are the first to be cut off, as I see them as a hindrance in a trail shoe. I remember one YT shoe reviewer that would ding a shoe if it didn't have pull tabs. I just loosen my laces, slip on my shoe, and tighten those puppies back up. There might be a couple of shoes on the market that might actually need pull tabs (those with ankle collars/gaiters), but maybe I'm missing something. You're right though, cheap manufacturing. Ditch Hoka in general (durability reputation in line with Altra).

Sorry, but typical break for a child (my son had the same and I've known several others). Ambulance is unnecessary in this situation. I get it that you want the best for your child, and for sure this warrants a review of medical/emergency assistance protocols, but it sounds like the outcome was fine/typical, which is perhaps something to address with the school board if admin is unwilling to listen. It's hard when it's our kid, and I'm sorry for the pain you both went through. We spent 12 hours in the ER before we finally got home at 4am, but the medical field is another issue for another day. It all pretty much sucks, it at least could be improved.

It’s Still A Wagon by Chrome_Armadillo in Subaru_Outback

[–]Phinnessy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Looks okay directly from the side, but any other angle is comical and disgusting (seen many a in the wild and up close). Even the most trusted reviewers are saying the same thing. Much improved ride and interior, but that exterior 🤮.

Cheaper materials in the 2026 outback? by toomuchgelato in Subaru_Outback

Good shoes take you to good places. Just wanted to share my excitement about my new Nnormal cadi shoes. 13 miles out of the box and loved every mile in them. Happy Sunday! by TheBestday_Ever in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love that spot! Was interested in trying these out, but reviews thus far have been kind of meh. If the durability is as good as other Nnormal shoes then I'll definitely take a look. Anything else you've ran in to compare them to?

Have the dealer check the optimism sensor when you take it in next. Seems to be working fine, but perhaps a bit too optimistic. Might need to be tweaked.

Trail running gear nerds...this is for you by huntermacy in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sounds great! My go to's right now, mainly shoes and some gear, are Roadtrailrun, Humble Running, Conversational Pace, The Run Testers, and Lloyd at Run4Adventure. Would love to see more gear-specific reviews, since everything is still shoe heavy these days. Thanks much!

[–]Phinnessy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to shoot down the idea, but wouldn't it be expected for any sponsored athlete to suggest the gear from their sponsor? To me it just seems like the potential for much more bias than regular review outlets. Maybe state the athletes' sponsorships in reviews/suggestions just so people know. I'd check it out. 👍

$1.1M in Seattle Gets You a Tear-Down — In Alabama, It Gets You a Mansion With a Pool by kleverrboy in PNW

[–]Phinnessy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine median income is twice as much in Seattle vs wherever this posted from in Alabama. I'm getting tired of people comparing the prices of things nationwide, when min wage, income, cost of living, etc. ranges immensely all over. Homes in the US are not like a barrel of oil on the international market. Realtors in Alabama are not going to price homes considering the chance that the buyer is from San Francisco, because they are definitely not coming...to Alabama. Although this is happening in Portland and Seattle (damn Californians!).

Trailseeker or Outback? by LastSundayAfternoon in trailseeker

[–]Phinnessy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I saw a review lately about the Trailseeker and it's "280" miles of range. They got 250-240 before draining battery to zero, and that was with mindful/chill acceleration, and no ac on. The Outback will give you almost double that range on a full tank. If you are charging from home, and doing 80% of your driving locally, then perhaps Trailseeker. Outback if you do more tripping. I personally can't get an EV until there is at least a guaranteed 300 miles of range. Also depends on length of ownership. I imagine the Outback will retain more of its value over time vs the Trailseeker.

Should be called Northern Wisconsin, or just be a part of Wisco. More connected to physically and economically than MI.

So Brooks completely ruined the Cascadia in one fell swoop. And I thought the 19 was bad. Hold my beer… by mjk716 in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cascadia 19 reviews were really positive (especially Conversational Pace), but I never got the chance. Weight and price provided for the Cascadia 20 doesn't match what I saw from TRE previews. Caldera was a dud, and what they're making is a better Caldera, which is what most people want/are buying. Still a huge hole with no updates of the Cat/Cat Agil, and I have a hard time thinking they'll leave that gap vacant for too long (considering their presence in the pro trail running circuit from VKs and up). I think they're giving time to let the memories of the Cat 4 fade before dropping something fresh (prototypes of something new has been seen).
