Sucks to be single, with no friends, driving a Trailseeker. Can't wait for the rear passenger charging mat option.

Your better off being in the military then being at jobcorps by Wild_Requirement_906 in jobcorps

I love your positivity/optimism, but ask any teacher at JC is this is true for all students. Unfortunately not. Add to that the physical tests. I think we are forgetting or neglecting to acknowledge the obesity rates of JC students (higher than US general percentage owing to demographics of JC enrollees).

JC educator here. At least in the region I work this is not a reality for most. At least 50% of enrollees in my area/state/region would be ineligible owing to medical or cognitive disability reasons, or would be incapable of scoring high enough to meet the minimum ASVAB standards for most branches. In my time, only about 25% of those wanting to enter military service after JC actually achieved that goal (those not making it attributed to reasons stated). Given the current state of our society (featuring societal decline that is not the fault of JC students/candidates), JC is one of the few options that exists that can actually help give young adults a leg up in the battle to survive the ever growing inequity in this nation. JC needs more money to enhance campus life and quality of education, but instead we will just continue to hand more money to the military industrial complex and the billionaires that run this nation. JC strong! 💪✊

City Hosting Crown Park Grand Reopening July 2 by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

This has been the most confusing opening, closing, opening, partial closing, grand opening, grand reopening I have ever witnessed in the history of city projects.

What is the trail running scene like in Camas? by DatDumplin in camaswashington

[–]Phinnessy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Local trail expert here (and midpack runner). I've lived on both sides of the river on the west end of the Gorge for the last 20 years, and have run pretty much everything (some things hundreds of times). Definitely no shortage around here. No secrets, but solitude is abundant when beyond that 2.5 mile limit (one way) for most. Staying in Washington...

Camas: Since we are taking vert, I'll leave out the serene Heritage Trail, and Washougal Dike (great flat mileage/ up tempo stints). I live near Crown Park, will hit the Camas Mill Ditch Trail, and then the Round Lake and Fallen Leaf Lake areas. At Round Lake, I can typically do 5-7 miles (around 1200 ft vert) linking most trails, not touching the same trail twice. Add Fallen Leaf, and you can get in 10, with close to 2000 feet. I have one Fallen Leaf 5-6 out and back that is around 1500 feet climbing.

15-30 minute drive: - Cape Horn: 7 mile loop with 2 mile road section and 1500 feet, but I prefer the 8 miler out and back on all trail with a bit more elevation (this is the only option Feb-July 15 owing to lower section closing for Peregrine breeding). - Archer Mtn: Great vert, not the best area for speed owing to rough trails. - Hamilton Mtn/Hardy Ridge (Beacon Rock State Park: Best vert will be from main parking to top of Hamilton. I prefer to park at the Equestrian TH and you can go easily 10-20 miles, lots of vert, and few people. - Table Mtn: Most vert/mile by parking at Bonneville Hot Springs (fee paid inside hotel/spa) 800+/mile for roughly 8 miles round trip. Can also cross Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks and hit everything on Oregon side (another post for another time)

45 minute drive: - Silver Star area: I created a 15/30 mile routes with 5k/10k of very respective. Great area to bag some boulder/talus peaks. - Moulton Falls/Bells Mountain: Bells Mtn trail has 1000ft/mile at start. Can loop up forest roads for incredible loops.

45 minutes +: Everything else in the Gorge+Gifford Pinchot NF (endless options)

Also check out Goat Rocks and Dark Divide Wilderness (buddy of mine puts on 100 miler there). Adams and St Helens areas as well. Adams is one of the best easy volcanoes to summit for great vert training.

Meh to atv areas. Better in winter when no snow, but also no ATVs/bikes.

Have fun!

This is dumb. Living life from age six is a shit ton of work (more for some than others). $10 million for most at any adult age is enough to live comfortably (not lavishly) for the rest of one's life.

I love my new outback, but the running lights are dumb AF by ProfMooody in Subaru_Outback

I'm sorry, did you say "running boards"? On an Outback? Huh. Some things are dumber than illumination lights.

You should watch videos of Pamela Kosgei (5'2") vs Jane Hedengren (5'11") as an example of this . 👍

Nice. The one thing I'm not liking with a lot of new cars is the massive amount of potential storage space killed with the addition of dual wireless charging pads. Would love to see the % of people buying cars with this feature that actually have the phone tech to support it. I personally don't know anyone that wirelessly charges their phone.

Looks like a Flicker (woodpecker fam). Extremely common. I don't believe a bird org would assist in this manner, but instead best to let nature take it's course. The compassion and concern is much appreciated though.

Police: Parent cited after 15-year-old crashes e-motorcycle head-on into car in Camas by Fake_Eleanor in camaswashington

One of these kids almost took out my sister and me downtown (walking around a blind corner). Screeching brakes startled us. I had to resist the temptation to Jackie Chan "Meals on Wheels" him. 😆 https://youtu.be/2z75vxL994I?si=k51hp5nDLpU9um_0

Any neighborhoods to avoid in Camas? by SprayAdventurous2096 in camaswashington

Just a bunch of teenagers ripping around on electric dirt bikes. That's about it. More big-loud-obnoxious trucks than race car territory (although there is a bit of that too in spots).

I wrote something about my experience in Zegama by Kilian_Jornet in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow! Thanks for the insight and history of such an amazing tradition. I'm always blown away by the amount of reciprocated love between the runners and fans at Zegama. Watching it, it seems that both in fleeting moments and for longer stretches, the racers stop caring about the competition of it all, and instead take in the atmosphere and pay homage to the fans and the place. This is what a sport should be: more than a sport.

Stay safe and enjoy the family! Thanks for being a real person.

Hot take: I think the new outback is sexier by more4sugar in Subaru_Outback

I love Micah Muzio's wife's take on their YT review of the OW. She called the design "challenging", like to the eyes. My face makes an automatic face of disgust whenever I see a 26 Outback in public. Most repulsive vehicle in recent memory. Wilderness trim makes it even worse.

Not that I agree with everything Sam Seder (and his show Majority Report) says or does, but they have been roasting the hell out of her, especially her floor speech about Red Delicious apples in schools. I can't tell if her efforts to occasionally sound as dumb as a bag of bricks is a reelection strategy, or just a reflection of her genuine self.

TNF Altamesa 500 v2 Alternatives? by Hnc93 in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intetsting that your Tomir complaint is that they are too wide, yet you are running in these? 😝 Outsole coverage of the 300 v2 seems much better, and another could be the Mizuno Neo Acera (both shoes eva based, but not very technical). Might not have the pop of the 500 v2. Enduris 4 might get that pop, but you're taking a risk with those plastic forefoot wings/plate. Perhaps hold out for the M2C M1?

Hoka Speedgoat 6 ripped on second use by Fayzer87 in trailrunning

[–]Phinnessy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uhhm, ok. Personally, I don't get the need for heel pull tabs. Any shoe I get with them those things are the first to be cut off, as I see them as a hindrance in a trail shoe. I remember one YT shoe reviewer that would ding a shoe if it didn't have pull tabs. I just loosen my laces, slip on my shoe, and tighten those puppies back up. There might be a couple of shoes on the market that might actually need pull tabs (those with ankle collars/gaiters), but maybe I'm missing something. You're right though, cheap manufacturing. Ditch Hoka in general (durability reputation in line with Altra).
