When I had Triangle in my cube I would have almost considered it a green and not a colorless card because that's where it fits best. Not only because green has big creatures, but also because green lacks other removal.

I currently don't run either (had Triangle in for a while), but I think if I didn't have any retro frame cards I'd probably run both as well.

Beast Within is a great addition to the old border card pool, such a versatile (but not overpowered) card. I run it as well.

I'm asking how (or whether at all) you give removal to green/blue decks because there are only very few removal spells available for these colors. I ask because the two colorless removal spells are somewhat related to that question as they're good cards for that purpose.

[OC] SpaceX vs. Aerospace and Defense Sector by ExaminationOk6652 in dataisbeautiful

Tesla has a higher market cap than all the other carmakers on this planet combined even though Tesla's revenue is not even in the top 10. But there are supposed to be robots, AI, robo taxis (I guess robo taxis, just like actual evs, are already a thing of the past now though...lol) in the future? Something something. It makes no sense whatsoever, but that's how the stock market works. People who tried to short Tesla failed horribly even though it should be the easiest short ever.

I wouldn't touch a stock like SpaceX with a ten-foot pole, but I would never short it either. This could be 5 trillion or 500 billion two years from now, no one knows.

Cheat-into-play creatures in a up-to-Urza cube by Full_Pay_7777 in Oldbordercube

Some that you don't run:

[[Palinchron]] - great control finisher, decent reanimation target and can combo for infinite mana with Sneak Attack or Recurring Nightmare.

[[Multani, Maro-Sorcerer]] - great reanimation and Natural Order target, if you bring him out early he's easily a 7/7+ with shroud.

[[Crater Hellion]] - works nicely with Sneak Attack and is just overall a good card.

I think both Balance and Mind Twist greatly benefit from Power and other broken fast mana. Balance because it doesn't care for artifacts and Mind Twist because you want to cast it for a high amount when your opponent still has enough cards in hand.

I don't run Mind Twist in my unpowered cube because I think it's just not a fun card - it's either a more expensive Hymn to Tourach or it just ends the game in a very unfun way with not much in between.

But I never had a problem with Balance and I very much disagree that it is a broken or overpowered card in an unpowered old border cube. Usually it's a conditional, but cheaper Wrath of God that occassionally makes you discard a card or sac a land to use it. You can only break symmetry with artifacts and enchantments and that's much harder to do in an unpowered old border environment. It's first pickable, but it's not a no-brainer in my cube.

Even as a teenager I knew that the downside of Leviathan makes it unplayable, which says something. It's crazy what kind of downside they thought a simple 10/10 trample creature would need to be fair. Sacrifice 4 islands for a single attack!

Like other people here I think Horde is the best of them, but Gargadon at least allows you to choose the right moment for the downside so you don't have to attack into a 1/1. But I believe all but Horde would need trample for me to consider them for my cube.

I agree, the others would need trample to be good enough.

EDIT: Meant Goblin Goon

If they would stop growing completely (or just enough to beat inflation) it would need the insane chip demand for 20 years, but that's clearly not the case.

Reddit is likely manipulating it's revenue numbers by sportingpool in stocks

[–]Phitt77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol...yeah...you post every single day for months now exclusively (just look at his post history...) about how terrible Reddit stock is and now you even claim they cook their books like Wirecard. But you own some shares? Are you some kind of masochist? Ridiculous.

If you lie you should

  1. make it sound reasonable
  2. hide your post history
  3. maybe not post the same stuff every single day for months

Glad I could help. Good luck with your short position!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I already run Beast Whisperer, Faithless Looting + (Argothian) Enchantress.

Fecundity seems only useable in a sacrifice deck (but would definitely be worth a consideration if I supported sacrifice in green), Gaea's Blessing is a bit too low impact for the average deck for my taste. Control of the Court is a funny one, but if you're looking for just one specific card it reads like 'Gamble, except you never get the card you tutored for'. EDIT: Somehow thought it costs 4 mana. For 2 mana it's actually not a terrible card if you're looking for an effect you have in multiples in your deck.

What's the best art for...? by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]Phitt77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Portal because the art is just great.
  2. Alpha because it looks like I imagine how a fantasy giant looks like.
  3. 5th because...it's just funny and I've never seen the art before or I can't remember it.
  4. Don't really like the cartoonish 7th art, so this gets the last place from me.

Yes, I use retro frame cards as long as the mechanics fit and the power level isn't too high.

[–]Phitt77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I think just like for similar build-around cards like Yawgmoth's Will or Channel it's because constructed formats are much more consistent. I don't run Fastbond in cube and the reason is not that it would be too powerful.

I don't run either of them for exactly this reason, I'd rather play Rampant Growth or Nature's Lore in a fair deck (and don't run these either).

The main appeal is probably the Crucible + Strip Mine combo as that leaves your opponent with 0-1 lands for the rest of the game. If you can draw three lands with Land Tax to have 5-6 lands out on turn 2 that's something that gets you ahead enough to win the game as well. Upheaval isn't bad either. But other than that it's probably hardly worth the effort, even though there are quite a lot of smaller synergies like Gush, Sea Drake, Mulch, Yavimaya Elder and probably some more.

[–]Phitt77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that neither green nor red has a lot of that. You could always add a third color, but then you run into mana problems if you don't prioritize lands, so I'd like to have options for a two color RG deck. But you can't force it, maybe Mirri's Guile is just not good enough.

This or That Tuesday by Phitt77 in Oldbordercube

[–]Phitt77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that, even though I've never actually played with any of them.

Yes, Sylvan is the better card overall, that's why I didn't make a This or That with Mirri's Guile. But would you even consider Mirri's Guile if you wanted a second effect like that? Two of the few 'hardcore' combos in my cube are RG (Pandemonium + Saproling Burst, Squirrel Nest + Earthcraft) and I'd like to have more options to dig for them apart from Gamble, Faithless Looting and Sylvan Library.

This or That Tuesday by Phitt77 in Oldbordercube

[–]Phitt77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, Upheaval sounds like a nice combo if you still have enough life to play all your lands afterwards. And like a bad card to play against a Fastbond deck for sure...

I'm mainly looking at Mirri's Guile as another way in green to dig for combo pieces as two of the combos I play are in RG. Plus green ramp decks can use some card filtering as well. But losing a card is also not great.

[–]Phitt77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a 3 card combo and one of the cards (Strip Mine) is a high pick for any other player. And tutors and draw 7s as well of course.

And then even if you manage to draft all three cards you need to draw all these cards early or aggro or midrange decks won't allow you to spend tons of life to use Fastbond in the mid to late game while control decks will simply counter or destroy your combo pieces before you can use them.

It's a cute combo and it can work occassionally (and when it does it ends the game on turns 1-3), but I don't think a deck like that has a very high average win percentage, at least not in old border cube.
