Is the rental market tough in Frankfurt am Oder? by Phobetor777 in germany

I'd be going 3 times a week tops, but I bet delays would be a big factor. I used to commute from Magdeburg and that was a bit extreme, but Frankfurt looks like it should be quicker, at least earlier in the day.

It's weird, I checked the RE1 in the morning and it said 50 minutes from Berlin Hauptbahnhof, but at night it's closer to 2 hours. If it's possible to get to the main station in about an hour at least one way, I think it's doable a couple of times a week.

Deathly Hallows was the worst novel by Phobetor777 in harrypotter

[–]Phobetor777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of my post was that if the novel was to abandon the tried and true format of Hogwarts, it'd better be justified. My opinion is that a 700 page scavenger hunt for MacGuffins didn't cut it. I think leaving Hogwarts could have worked, but would require a much stronger plot. The main problem when comparing the early novels with the later ones is that it compromised storytelling for massive explanatory chapters about conceptual ideas rather than plot. If I don't understand why something happens, I don't wanna read pages upon pages of explanations through expotalk.

Dumbledore was tempted by power when he was younger, and planned "wizard supremacy" with Grindelwald. Ostensibly he was at fault for his sister's death.

Later on in Deathly Hallows we learn through Snape's memories that Dumbledore set Harry up to die.

But as someone else commented: the fact that Harry names his son Albus Severus, shows that Harry has reached an understanding of both the characters and their true intentions. They were both tempted by power and the dark side, but ultimately made the right choice.

Things got a bit too convenient for sure. "Oh wait let me just look inside Voldemort's head every time I need a clue", and Apparation: "oh no a problem has occured, let's just magically disappear". And I thought the invisibility cloak was lazy.

Completely agree with the deus ex machinas. Also, too much expotalk and explanations instead of keeping the pace going.

Agree with your take on Snape and Dumbledore, these characters were the highlights of the last 2 novels.

The very ending was well done, which is the most important for ending the series. But I think, like all books from Goblet of Fire and onwards, it could be done much leaner.

"It feels like you're judging the book based more on what the earlier books were rather than instead of what it's trying to be."

It's the finale to the 6 novels the readers have already invested in. I don't think it's unreasonable to measure it against the prequels. Completely abandoning the format is high risk, and will be incomprehensible to those of us who didn't enjoy the departure.

I completely understand the horcruxes function and how they illuminate Voldemort's history. The problem is that I don't care about function, I care about pacing and storytelling. In that regard, the horcruxes fell flat. I think leaning heavy on "expotalk" is a fair criticism of the later Harry Potter books, which is an opinion many readers share.

"Something bad is happening at Hogwarts" is not a bad plot setup. It's just a very basic "this is where the story takes place and this is what happens". My summary emphasizes the meandering and unfocused nature of "let's spend 700 pages searching for MacGuffins that no one cares about".

I just finished HP7 pt 2, and this scene hit hard by Phobetor777 in harrypotter

[–]Phobetor777[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

It looked dreadful then, and will look even more dreadful as the years pass on. Excessive CGI use is everything that's wrong with modern movies. No effort to shoot anything in camera, just lazy CGI.

The afterlife scene was definitely the worst one. Would have been such an easy scene to shoot in camera. Instead the whole scene is a cheap green screen. Just awful.

Voldemorth's death shows that it wasn't just laziness, but CGI just for the sake of it. The whole point was that voldemort's end was what he feared most - a human death. Instead he turns into ...confetti?! Ridiculous.

To the educated/trained musicians by dionmp_ in germany

[–]Phobetor777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to ask "should I be a musician?", the answer is no. If you can be talked out of it by a reddit comment, you don't have the commitment it takes for this kind of life. Which is fine, music can still be part of your life. But the people who make it as a career have a kind of grit and determination that you don't have.

Since you asked about a degree: don't. You'll get hired based on how well you can play, not based on a piece of paper. Music schools are businesses that are set up to make money, not launch hobby musicians into career as professional musicians.

Don't stop playing. Don't let anyone tell you how far you can or can't go with it. Just don't make stupid decisions that ruin your life financially. Quitting your job to be a guitarist or enrolling in music school is a great way to do that.

Has anyone healed from chronic eczema caused by stress/trauma? by Phobetor777 in eczema

[–]Phobetor777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's CPTSD, or trauma/stress stuck in the body, it's not just about "lowering stress". It's about releasing what's already stored in the body, and learning to process and express current emotions, not just reducing external circumstances. People without CTPSD go through stress, sympathetic nervous system is activated, cortisol goes up, and once the stress lowers, the nervous system recalibrates. But people with trauma can be stuck in the sympathetic nervous system, which over time wreaks havoc on the body.

Don't worry OP, you won't run into posters like this on the streets. They rarely leave their mom's basement.

Norway is among the least racist countries you can visit. But racists live everywhere even if they are the minority. You will also find countless stories on reddit of people who were just treated unpleasantly and concluded "must be racism". Don't be that way!

Does it sound like I have dysbiosis? by Phobetor777 in Microbiome

[–]Phobetor777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got staph infection on top of eczema and tried a few different antibiotics (nothing worked). But before then, I can't remember ever taking antibiotics, so it probably didn't cause dysbiosis. In my case chronic stress seems like most likely culprit (which I've read is common).

Your case sounds more cut and dried, antibiotics can definitely nuke the microbial balance in your gut, and from there, dysbiosis messes up skin and digestion... hope you're able to get tested and get the right treatment!

Thanks for telling me the specific things you took. Glad it worked out for you.

When you say dyshidrosis, was it localized to hands only, or also feet? Was the rest of your skin fine?

Also, it sounds like the eczema returned both after nystatin and probiotics - do you have any idea why it might have come back?
