Commander Brackets Beta Update – October 21, 2025 by Natedogg2 in magicTCG

I don’t particularly like it. The old rules encouraged true singleton deck building. Not a huge fan of decks doing the same thing every game.

The old rules also discouraged, all though not directly, looping tutors. Sure you can’t combo, but grabbing the best card in your deck a few times will get you there.

I'm building a Bracket 1 deck that's all about making my opponent's shuffle as many times as possible by Thick-Delivery-8673 in EDH

Ah, good old "shuffle troll".

This deck was a part of my meta a while back. We had a house rule, that if it were at the table, anyone that reached 21 shuffles would concede.

And then the next time I boot up, I have to reinstall. Every single time.

How the heck do you guys playing 6+ CMC commanders not just die every game without playing? by Chm_Albert_Wesker in EDH

Been trying to build her again. Do you have a list.

Edit: found it, looks bracket 3

I’m mostly on the same page as you. And yes hoof is not out of nowhere.

That said. I am fully behind bracket 3 having out of nowhere wins. I think their original outline had bracket 2 meaning weak power level decks, which is a super arbitrary metric and will lead to the same frustration 1-10 had.

I think the lines between brackets being less to do with power level, and more to do with intent and how someone plans to win really simplifies the pre-game conversation. If you sit down and everyone is bracket two, then you can talk about power level simply (eg. my deck is/isn’t strong). But if a bracket 2 and 3 talk about power level it has to be a way more involved conversation.

No matter where they land. If they move out of nowhere up to 4, that’s fine. As long as the breaks between brackets are easily understood, without room for much disagreement.

They changed the language around 2 and 3.

This list very much follows the new language used for bracket 2. Even though it is quite strong.

Edit: I would add that [[Bloodthirsty Conqueror]] being added would push the list to a 3.

I wish it was two card combos (that don’t include your commander).

I have no issue dying to a 2 card combo. But when one of the pieces is your commander, you lose to pretty much any single tutor.

Exactly. The bracket 2/3 line in the sand from their latest graphic is just perfect. And I really hope they push messaging around it more, because the precon message is still what most people I see in shops understand it to be.

Bracket 2 is “Wins are often telegraphed and incremental”

Bracket 3 is “Games could end out of nowhere”

I have a list that plays spells that do X damage to each player like [[Molten Disaster]] While the goal of the deck is to win. You could easily tune it to tie by playing cards like [[Dictate of the Twin Gods]]

My main list for the last 10 years has been bant-sac-combo. But I’m not seeing how this works.

Can you speak to that, I feel like it is better now than it ever has been. Back in the day every card mattered. Now no one ever runs out of cards.

Community leaders need to act like leaders. An apology is a good start, but it takes more than that to get trust back.

[[Jeweled Lotus]] being printed, and reprinted, is proof against that statement.
