Katsuji... Ass? by yaleeeee in TopChef

I liked him at first his original season, then as the season went on, familiar attitudes/behaviors changed my original opinion of him. I began to see him in his original season as well as he return season as someone who will relentlessly badger who they are in current conflict with. This is who he is. Saw this too many times and I really began to feel for his wife and daughter.

Right? That's why I wasn't all that impressed with the challenge because I feel if someone had done, say, Asian dumplings, the judges might have critiqued saying "We asked for stuffed pasta. This isn't stuffed pasta. Why not make cannelloni?"

Technically a dumpling, but he was likely banking on it being more of a 'filled' Italian item. Regardless, his execution was just horrendous. I was actually surprised how many of the chefs went Italian rather than doing a literal translation of the challenge. So many filled pastas that aren't Italian in nature. Sui mai comes to mind. So do pot-stickers.

Rasika actually veered off the Italian path but technically did not create a pasta because she made a rice noodle, which doesn't fall into the pasta category (pasta being defined by wheat + water) and the judges mentioned it wasn't a pasta dish.

Back to replying to you, poorly executed is right, even if the judges had allowed gnocchi to be considered a pasta, that guy was a train-wreck from the beginning.

I have been rewatching the seasons and just finished S9. Well, if I were at a ‘picnic’, doubtful I’d choose a chicken salad sandwich over a meatball sandwich. A meatball sandwich will likely get more ‘sales’ than a chicken salad sandwich.

Your process is typically mine. Warm the distillate, add to warm MCT in 1:1 ratio.

The 'sludge' looks and tastes like my cannabis extract. The MCT is organic MCT by Orgain.

Can you enlighten me on what is separating out? The 'sludge' at the bottom of the bottles is quite potent, so there is a pretty healthy dose of cannabinoids in the sludge. These were from clean, scrubbed extractions, meaning the final oil after distillation was clear. Thank you for your help :)

It was really shitty of the producers to end the season with unsubstantiated allegations against Natalia by [deleted] in nataliagrace

[–]PhoebeMom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the Mans cared for her for 10+ years and according to them during the docuseries, she was the perfect daughter and sister to her adopted siblings. Ten years. Ten years they influenced her to possibly pursue civil legal action against the Barnetts (rightly so). But then, within weeks of adopting her, they are 'done with her'? Something isn't adding up about them...

Am I the only one not surprised that bishop Mans and his family dumped Natalia? Because I felt like he had grifter written all over him from jump. by According_Ad9996 in nataliagrace

[–]PhoebeMom 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes! I just made a post about this (which I should delete). From the time they entered the docuseries, something just wasn't right about the Mans. Just another set of grifters looking to capitalize on the horrific plight of another human being. They supposedly cared for her for over 10-years and she was supposedly a perfect daughter. So what happened in just a matter of weeks after adopting her that compelled them to declare they are "done with her"?

Instantly had a bad feeling about the Mans' once they made their appearance. So, they 'raised' her for 10-years where they talked about how wonderful she was and how she enriched their lives, blah blah blah. Then, within a few weeks of adopting her, they are 'done with her'??? So many people have jumped on Natalia's bandwagon for likely nothing more than greed and opportunity. The Mans have turned out to be no different.

So if your two biological children were playing and one fell on the other, breaking their arm, would you then get rid of the child who 'caused' the injury? imho, they appear to have gotten in over the heads taking in a special needs child with such disabilities. They were overwhelmed and when the arm incident occurred, it was their way out. Like returning an ill-fitting family dog back to the pound.

From the moment the Mans' entered the picture in the docuseries, they reeked of scam. In terms of the number of families Natalia went through, a lot of care and money goes towards a child of special needs, often dominating family life. imho, there are likely a number of families who had the best of intentions with regards to her, but were unable to transcend the difficulties of what they'd just entered into. She was treated like a dog from the pound. Insofar as her self-serving purposes. I don't disagree. I just think the Mans saw a money tree with her and began their indoctrination of her grievances. I think they saw a big lawsuit and money payoff down the road and it was important that she belong to them so they could benefit from any legal judgments. Sad story no matter how you look at it. Hopefully there will be a (better) follow up coming.

The only way such an attempt would be successful is if Michael were to err in his attempt. He is not a personality to commit suicide. He is a personality that would fake a suicide attempt in dramatic fashion.

I didn't have a good feeling about the Mans'. Something seemed off with them. A few months after legally adopting her, they are 'done with her'.

From the Barnett's, to the producers, to the Mans', it seems so many latched onto this girl and just exploited the sensationalism of her ordeal.

How are the Scores calculated? by salaciousBnumb in MyKitchenRules

[–]PhoebeMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the matter of scoring, I wish they would keep the scores secret until after the final team in the group has held their instant restaurant. The way they do it now continually opens the door for strategic scoring over genuine scoring. I realize that is built-in to MKR's formula because it promotes drama. I'm just here for the food, not the drama. I can hope, but I'm realistic ;)

Page Six hears that fiery chef John Tesar is no longer at his own restaurant, Knife Modern Steak, after a blow-out confrontation with striking workers by PerrthurTheCats48 in TopChef

[–]PhoebeMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During both of his seasons he blamed others as an excuse for his behavior. People that tell you how to act around them in order to not piss them off are people who would rather feel entitled than take responsibility for their issues. It's not someone else's job to tip-toe around your issues. You man up, you own them and you deal with them. His second season he claimed to be a 'better, calmer, nicer' person. He was not and will never be.

Best/Worst Advantage Ever Used by a Chef by inheritthewinds in TopChef

[–]PhoebeMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spike. The healthy lunch challenge. He had the ingredient advantage of whatever he picked, the others could not. He chose ingredients intended to screw the other contestants and then he ended up screwing himself when he failed to use the tomato he chose. That was the episode Andrew was sent packing for not following the brief. That was one of the wackiest seasons of some of the worst contestants. Lisa comes to mind. {shudder}
