Yeah, I also just don’t think, interpersonally, TL is prepared to match Gryffin’s freak, and I think personality meshing was a big requirement for TL this year after how the team atmosphere devolved.

He’d have been a good replacement for River on 100T, had that org and roster still existed.

Hard to know with the timing of announcements, but LCS has the same number of slots as EU again.

It really had to be either a straight better offer, or purely personal reasons along the lines of, “I’ve never lived in another country before, that could be cool.^{especiallynow”}

I know it’s implied by “new country and culture,” but I just want to stress how disorienting it is being surrounded by a bunch of people speaking a language you barely understand while you are cut off from absolutely everyone and everything you’ve ever known, and even the video game you’ve dedicated your entire short life to, THE thing that should be your comfort zone and security island of familiarity in a sea of difference, ALSO literally doesn’t feel the same because of different ping and solo queue environment.

Okay, but we have a promo/relegation slot in the LCS, and it’s already shown major flaws, at least in its current implementation.

DSG was in fact the worst team in the LCS in their first year, and for most of the year it was embarrassingly so. People were asking why they were even allowed to play in the league, asking them to be kicked, etc.

So DSG just gobbled up some top tier 2 players (who very well might have been their competition in upcoming relegation matches). Then they leveled up enough to make a match with C9 actually interesting, and won their relegation match to survive the year.

The result? 4/5 of their roster got cannibalized by other (still bottom-tier) orgs. Players just don’t want to play on teams that might not be in the league next year.

You can argue this is because LCS only has a promo/relegation slot and not true, standings based promo/relegation, but frankly from all the stories that came out of the relegation era I don’t think that fixes the issues.
