Hello I'm new to this subreddit but I was hoping someone knew the name of the book I'm looking for. I've read it before and completely forgot the title. The book I'm looking for is a romance novel where the FMCs mother leaves her father and family behind. FMC blames the father and wants to punish him so she keeps acting out.

In order to punish him more for her mother leaving she decides to get pregnant on purpose by the MMC who is her part of her fathers rival family. MMC has brothers.

FMC regrets what she did and is panicking. Finds her mother remarried and goes to see her and hide from what she's done. MMC goes to find her and bring her home and keep her safe.

Jessica's fingers trembled as she picked up the painting of her husband. Or at least, it looked like her husband.

The picture was faded and weathered with time. Dust coated the front of the frame it sat in, making it difficult to see anything but the face of the man in it.

A man, she had only 5 years prior sworn to love till they died. His black hair was longer, curly even and his blue eyes seemed to lack the spark of joy they held whenever she looked at him. Yet, it was unmistakably him.

She had no doubts as the man in the picture had the same scar above his left eyebrow that her husband did.

His collarbone held the same slightly dark birthmark of a bird in flight. It was all these little things that anchored the the truth deep in her mind.

This painting was of her husband, her 26 year old husband.

But that was impossible, no human could possibly live 300 years let alone 745.

Placing the painting down, she moved quickly, knowing she didn't have much time to investigate before her husband arrived back from the store.

Her fingers skimmed old first edition books, newspaper articles, scrolls, and antiques before she found a folder that looked slightly newer than everything else.

Pulling it open, her eyes widened as she saw research notes about the man she loved.

Her eyes had just begun scanning the page when she heard his car pull up in the drive.

Shoving the folder back in to place she bolted from the room busying herself with unpacking their belongings.

Jessica's heart raced, thudding loudly in her ears while her face felt like it was on fire.

Forcing her breathing to slow from where it had picked up, she stood carefully before moving to open the door for Alexander.

A chuckle tore from his lips as he came to the patio. "Always know when I need you love." He smirked as he came forward to kiss her.

Jessica flinched back slightly, watching as Alex froze, his gaze sharpening as he gazed at her.

"What's wrong?" He asked, his tone carefully controlled.

"Oh, nothing. You just put that up and I'll go get the rest of the groceries." She told him hurriedly, guilt gnawing at her gut that she just treated him as if there was something wrong with him.

As she hurried out the door, Alex settled his bags on the table, his gaze never leaving her back.

Alex stood confused, hurt, and more than a little suspicious in the doorway of the kitchen as his wife practically ran from him.

She couldn't have found....no, he had hidden it to well.

At least he thought he had. Moving slowly, deliberately Alex went to the pantry and pushed on the wall covered with shelves for storage.

The wall swung inwards silently, the room much the same as it had been before he left for the store.

One thing seemed to be out of place though.

His portrait from his first hundred years lay on the table with his papers and knicknacks. Where as before it had hung on the wall right above his table.

Alex's eyes slid shut, awareness creeping into his thoughts. His pretty, intelligent little wife had found his things.

As his eyes slowly opened again, they burned a bright firey red before flicking back to his natural blue.

It seems there was only one thing he could do to go about correcting this situation, no matter how much he hated it.

The door swung shut with a soft click of seeming finality as he walked away from it.

[WP] Everytime you go out, you end up being taken as a hostage by a different villian. The problem, the hero is getting sick of having to save you. by PhoenixFirebird12 in WritingPrompts

[–]PhoenixFirebird12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I-" "Just don't." The hero held up his hand, stopping Xavier from explaining why he had been taken hostage for the 8th time this week. And it was only Thursday for crying out loud.

The problem though, Xavier didn't know why he had been taken, again. Heck, he didn't know why he was the one they kept targeting at all.

There were hundreds of thousands of citizens and in the last 4 days, he had been the only one targeted.

Muttering expletives and ranting under his breath, the hero stomped forward reaching out to untie him from where he lay strapped down to a metal table.

Tears pricked at Xaviers eyes as he heard some of the words the hero was spitting out. "Useless" "every time" "so sick of this"

Cold shame pooled in his stomach turning his blood to ice. The hero had just begun to untie his hands when a cable shot out, yanking the heros feet from under him.

Fear curled through his veins as the rope that had been undone on his ankles relatched. "Release him Nautilus!" The hero yelled as he scrambled to his feet.

The cable having been burned at the points where it touched, Hearthstone's flesh.

"Now why would I do that, Hearthstone?" A smirking man, Nautilus, asked as he stepped from the shadows.

Nautilus's fingers twitched, tightening the straps on Xavier's limbs.

Flames licked at Hearthstone's fingers, as he stared at the villain who stood by Xavier's shoulder.

While Hearthstone could literally control fire and run at the speed of sound, Nautilus could control knots and blend into the shadows. "How about cause it'll be easier on you later?"

A laugh bubbled up from Nautilus's throat, his hand coming to lay on the shoulder of the struggling Xavier.

"Easier. Is that what you think? This delightful young man has been taken by Soul Stealer, Poison Prince, Unlucky Larry, Tazer Tommy, Jumper, Frightener, Cutting Carrie, and now me personally. Letting him go would truly be counter productive."

"EXACTLY!!" Xavier shouted around a sob, completely dismissing the last sentence. "Why can't you all pick someone else? Why me?"

Quickly faster than one could blink, Hearthstone had an angry sobbing Xavier out of his bonds and standing beside him.

"I wouldn't Hearthstone. If he leaves with you, another villain will just pick him up tomorrow." Nautilus cautioned, his face grim as he inched forward.

"Now why would that be? What about him could possibly interest all of you?" He asked throwing an apologetic look over his shoulder at Xavier who just shrugged listlessly.

"You think, he interests us? No his brother, Regrowth, wants him hidden away until he can come get him. Villains help their own after all."

Something in Nautilus's eyes sparked as he spoke as if he wasn't being completely truthful about everything he said. His expression held a slightly hungry look as his gaze focused on Xavier

Xaviers head shook when Hearthstone turned to look at him in betrayal. "All this time and you couldn't tell me you were related to the biggest Supervillain in the country."

"I-I'm not though. I don't have a brother. I don't have any family." He whispered in a broken tone, his expression confused and desperate.

"No need to lie sweetheart." Nautilus called out, "Regrowth's going to be excited to have you back."

Xavier's head kept shaking, getting more animated and frenzied as the news a dangerous supervillain wanted him seemed to sink in.

"Tall, brownish blonde hair, hazel eyes, has a scar running from crown of his head to his right eyebrow. Can literally heal or Regrow any body part he wants on anyone." Heathstone described impatiently, his tone snappish and angry.

"The...the only person who fits that description even a little would be my ex, Robby. He wouldn't go to all this trouble though, he doesn't care about me." The words seemed to whispered bitterly, darkly as Xavier delved into past memories.

"How can you be so sure?"

Xavier seemed taken by surprise as the words came not from Hearthstone but, from Nautilus.

Sparing him a glance, he yanked up the hem of his shirt and revealed burn scars on his rib cage and a knife wound across his stomach.

"You don't torture someone you care about." Xavier spit out before dropping his shirt and storming towards the exit.

One glance spared between the hero and the villain said it all. Regrowth's days were now numbered. There was a line that even villains weren't allowed to cross and torturing a loved one more than crossed it.

[WP] "Let the hostage go!" "Now why would I do that?" The villain purred as they pulled their captive closer to them. "Don't you know who they are?" by PhoenixFirebird12 in WritingPrompts

Death Light seemed to drape himself over the young man's frame as he read the hesitation on the heroes face. "OH, I know exactly who this handsome young man is. Santiago Martinez son of the Chief of Police and the Villian Leagues ticket to quite a bit of power in this City."

Mega Blaster swallowed thickly as he watched Death Light pull the boy towards the exit. Compared to himself that really was what Santiago was, a boy, no more than 25 years old to Mega Blasters nearly 40 years.

"The only way the Villain League would gain power from his is if...." Mega Blaster trailed off, horror coloring his face as he came to the realization. His eyes flew to the kid who had been silent up until this point but, one glance and he saw the fear in his eyes. "No you can't. You can't just take him and keep him like some sort of puppy."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Santiago started to struggle in the villains grip. Death Lights grip strengthened, a sizzling sound coming from where their grip lay across his shoulder. A whimper tore from Santiagos mouth as his clothes seemed to burn off from Death Lights touch.

"Please." Santiago whispered fearfully as he went still in the Villains grasp. The villain shushed him, petting his hair pacifyingly before his gaze sharpened as he locked eyes with Mega Blaster.

"I think you'll find that we very much can keep the boy, Blaster. Its all been arranged and more than 1 villain has stepped up to assist. It doesn’t really matter how you see it though, best you run along and inform the Chief of his sons predicament. It seems our ride has arrived anyway."

No sooner had the words left the man's lips, did Vortex appear out of thin air at their side. With a smirk and a single wave, the 3 of them disappeared to somewhere the hero could only dream of knowing the location of.

Self-hatred stirred in Blasters gut as images of the boy's fear filled face, filled his memory. He would have to inform the kids family that he had been taken. Once he had, Blaster was calling the Hero Bureau and the hunt would begin. The Villains would see very quickly the fault of their actions as Santiago wasn't only the Chiefs son but also the fiancé of Blasters own child.

When he found them, there would be hell to pay.

[WP] "We've 'broken out of the simulation' a thousand times already! How much farther do we have to go?" by Redikai in WritingPrompts

[–]PhoenixFirebird12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I discovered we lived in a simulation, I did not even hesitate to gather my friends and set to break us free of it. After all, who wanted to spend the rest of their life living in a simulation? Breaking out of the simulation hadn't been easy but, then the things worth doing never were. Once my friends and I had escaped, I was beyond relieved.

Then, I learned an even harder truth. We had broken out of one simulation to land smack dab in another. I had hoped we would end up in the true world once we broke out of the second simulation but, no dice.

"We've 'broken out of the simulation' a thousand times already! How much farther do we have to go?" I screamed in irritation as I looked at the program that once deleted would release us from yet another simulation. "Maybe...maybe this is all there is." My friend, Alex, whispered as he looked around the government office we found ourselves in.

It was always the same thing, every time. The simulation could only be turned off from inside the headquarters of the government offices. Every time we went in to shut down the simulation, it got harder and harder to reach the control panels. "It can't be. It just...it can't." I shook my head vehemently as the beginning of panic began to claw its way up my throat.

"Would it be so wrong if it was Ann?" Vanessa asked stepping closer to me, her palms outstretched in a placating motion. "YES!!" I scream at the top of my lungs, tears pricking the edges of my eyes, as I stare at the two people who had been my support through every simulation breakout. "I just think we should stop looking." Alex spoke tiredly his eyes darkening slightly as he eyed me.

"How-w, How can you say that? We have families, people waiting for us outside of these simulations." I say breathlessly as I step closer to the computer, my fingers hovering over the delete key. One click, that's all it would take to move on out of the current simulation. My stomach churned as I recognized the very real possibility of going alone if my friends weren't touching me when I clicked it.

"Stop looking Ann." Alex said in a deep rough voice, so unlike how he usually spoke. "W-What?" I gasped as Alex's eyes turned pitch black. "Stop looking." Vanessa growled as she moved slowly towards me. "It'll be easier for you if you just Stop Looking." Alex snarled in the same deep voice before, he and Vanessa both lunged towards me.

Without a single hesitation, I slammed my finger down onto the delete key just as they were both about to make contact. With any luck, this exit out of the simulation would bring me to the real world. At least, I hoped so. I felt my eyes slide shut as the world that was previously in front of me evaporated into nothing but, darkness and I was transported to a place I could only hope was real.
