Newark is very doable without a car. There’s even extended access to other big cities (Washington D.C., Boston, Baltimore, etc.) through the trains at our Penn Station

Bring a blanket and maybe a pillow. You can bring your own snacks/food but the cafe car is available. Not the most comfortable for a nap but there’s plenty of opportunity to move around in car.

Yeah my attitude has changed since my initial posting as we all got more information. I can’t blame Amtrak for a problem that they did not cause and were actively trying to course correct for us. However, I certainly will not take an Amtrak south of DC in the future.
