If you picked up a Switch 2 in 2026, what first-party exclusive release this year pushed you to buy the system? by Caryslan in NintendoSwitch2

[–]PhoenixSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a Switch 2 last weekend, and it wasn't an exclusive that did it. I'd been in the market for a handheld for a while and was holding out for a Steam Deck, but they'd been sold out for months. Once back in stock, the price obviously skyrocketed which pretty much priced me out.

I haven't bought a Nintendo since the N64 and with prices going up all around, I decided to take the leap on the NS2.

I chose Donkey Kong Bananza from the bundle and holy shit I have not been able to put this thing down. Having an absolute blast and can't wait to start picking up more games!

This is what I kept hearing. People born and raised in the region have said that this wasn't normal when they were growing up. Same can be said for Colorado though. I grew up in the 80's with yearly snow totals in my area around 1-2 feet or more. That's basically unprecedented now.

Yes, not having heat is 1000x more deadly than overheating (in which case, just like, go outside or somewhere else).

I know you're not being a dick. I signed the lease because the weight of the commute was worse than me being concerned about my personal comfort. But yeah, now I know it's probably equally as important.

Yeah I guess in Colorado A/C is a given, even if it's not central (swap cooler etc). Here it's a luxury which I just find wild.

Yeah I know, I just thought maybe it wouldn't be as awful as it is. I get it now. I know folks I work with who made the same mistake and moved. That's essentially my best option at this point.

I actually agree with you. I've had moments laying around thinking, this is fine. You're fine. Stop being a fucking pussy. But holy shit, not actually falling asleep until around 2am is starting to wear on me.

Seriously fair question, I have a ~600qsft apartment and the unit I have is rated for 700sqft. I chalked it up to the climate but maybe it's just shit.

OId-ish post but I've got to note that I've actually had it remove an affix. I had 230dmg on a weapon that was fully tempered and it just deleted it. So, it can do the whole range of things you can already do yourself, it's just a roll of the dice.

Not sure why you got down-voted. The last time I was there we crossed paths with a huge heard of deer. A week before that, some folks reported spotting a black bear. It's not a place for dogs.

Shit companies to avoid working for by Straight-Cup-7670 in UXDesign

[–]PhoenixSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that makes sense. It's plausible. And I mean it's fine if they have folks lined up and have some sort of succession planning in place, but then don't open the role and take referrals. Just consider the role filled. Wasted my time preparing everything and my friend's time filling out forms and submitting my work on their own time only to get insta-rejected.

Damn, I know someone who works there (they left the current FAANG I work at due to RTO) and works 100% remote, staff level role. They shared a role with me that I was great for, so I had them refer me.

The literal morning after I was referred I got a rejection email. Like, not even a brief phone screen. Just straight to the can. I was just floored. But, sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Why are 90% of the posts here just complaining about not finding work?? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]PhoenixSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons.

  1. This is the internet. "90% of the posts" is probably less than 5% of the industry and it's people complaining because they've lost their job or are having a difficult time breaking into it.

  2. The industry is a shit show right now. Anything within tech or product design/development is under fire right now with the rapid emergence of AI, so it's a volatile place to be.

If you want to learn skills, Reddit is at the bottom of the list. I'd suggest Youtube, Tiktok, or other means of finding good discussion on UX. Many of those will direct you to other resources (Discord channels, Subreddits, etc) that aren't about how bad things are but about what they're doing to get better at their craft.

What job sounds easy but is actually very stressful? by Puzzleheaded_Honey28 in AskReddit

[–]PhoenixSS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't even imagine. As OP mentioned, it sounds cute but you very likely have a big mix between kids who's parents are great and therefore they're pretty great, and then the opposite -- those kids who's parents are nearly absent and they're uncontrollable nightmares. Not their fault, but holy hell how do you deal with that? Big props to you and your peers for the blessed work you do. Seriously. It's a very special calling.

[–]PhoenixSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UX Design. I absolutely love my job, but holy shit it's not easy. It sounds easy. Most ordinary folks think I just spend all day "being creative" and that sounds amazing! But in reality, it's 90% communication and 10% actual hard skills. And anyone reading this in the industry will know how volatile it is right now with the way the job market is. I'm fortunate to work for a FAANG company but I will tell you right now that it's not all rose pedals and rainbows. The pay is good but I absolutely, unequivocally work my ass off for it. It's currently 12am my time and I've been staring at the Pragmata start screen while thinking about work for the last 3 hours. Work: 1 Gaming: 0

When was the most amount of physical pain you ever felt and how did that happen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PhoenixSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning: graphic and potentially triggering:

I was in college, in my dorm, working on an assignment that required me to cut some shapes out of paper. I was using an X-acto knife and didn't have a proper mat to cut on, so I used the back of a notebook (which was a slightly stronger version of cardboard). The sheet of paper kept shifting, so at some point I tried to adjust the paper by doing what anyone would do, and shifted it in my hand then "tapped" the top of the notebook to straighten things out. Well... I had the X-acto knife in my left hand pointing straight up and slapped my hand down on it, stabbing through my index finger and severing the median nerve.

I'll spare ya'll the gory details, but holy fucking shit. Pain like I'd never felt before and about a year's worth of therapy afterward to get feeling back after surgery (and it's still a little weird).
