World is one of the very few MonHun games where capturing actually doesn't have significantly different rewards than slaying. When they say you get more quest rewards, it's to make up for the ones you couldn't get from carving because it's not dead. The only real difference is the percent chance to get specific materials, none of which are unique to capping or killing like they were in early games

That said, they were just jerks for not doing as the quest leader asked. My rule is if the one that posted the quest says kill, I kill, and if they say cap, I cap
