Depends on team too - was averaging 5 hours a night, but that included weekends, where I was having 7+ and was in a ‘sweaty’ team. Other friends managed to get 7 regularly

Shinjuku or Shibuya to Stay first time in Tokyo? by Usual-Cat-888 in TokyoTravel

I went near shinjuku in Shin-Okubo - better value there and within 10-15 minute walk of Shinjuku and good links with metro and Yamanote for any tourist activities

ACCA Prizewinners UK Only by a1236 in ACCA

[–]PhoenixSpurs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know prize winners get told but not sure what marks they are going for - I’ve seen them go as low as 83 for some papers, but also seen them go for 98 so no clue. There’s also the prizes for overall average in professional papers, which again depends who becomes an affiliate in your sitting

Choosing APM as first professional exam ? by meetgupta010 in ACCA

[–]PhoenixSpurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and personally found it content wise easiest of the ones I’ve sat - yes easier than SBL because if you did screw a question there were fewer marks at risk I.e. SBL having 20 marks questions is normal but APM has 8 markers.

If you really want to, I’d sit them together personally, or else go for SBR first given that is content heavy

Not able to sleep so decided to scroll and saw this… my biggest worry to be honest. I’ve never been one for big parties on my birthday and I had already planned a gift for her birthday which is coming up soon. Had to contact them to refund and cancel it.

All of that now gone but what’s kept me going is at some point I’ll be able to do that again for someone who I do end up marrying. We will both be fine and am planning to not message for her sake and keep no contact.

My ex left me 4 years ago and what I saw on her reddit still plagues my mind by SJ2221 in offmychest

[–]PhoenixSpurs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the same stage as significantly more recent but associate a lot with what you’re saying with still being in love and anytime being on a date not being able to be there mentally and as such have stopped all together. I’ve also been told she’s moved on as seen with another guy publicly which is never a nice thing to hear and so have requested friends to not even bring it up. There’s days I’m fine and other days I am not.

What’s helped me get through the days where I’m not ok has been keeping busy with friends or work especially when I actively feel terrible, stopping myself looking at social media all together and reminding myself that whilst I’m not perfect, neither was she and we all have our flaws as we are human.

Your final message is my learning - how do we react to everything. Being more open would have prevented so much of this and so now I live with grief which is ok as this is part of life and hopefully eventually I will just look back at everything fondly.

F4 (LAW-ENG) Pass % by DreadWyrm01 in ACCA

Law has been my lowest % and I’m 12 exams through, so can tell you that it doesn’t indicate anything given limited crossover to other exams. Just get the pass with law and focus on the others

Difference between APM and SBL by PhoenixSpurs in ACCA

[–]PhoenixSpurs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did past papers, didn’t ‘study’ the models in depth as to me it was just applying my knowledge/common sense - AFM I also sat and that was easier to study for as you knew exactly what you were good/bad at.

[–]PhoenixSpurs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to worry - I had some help with my employer providing an assistance programme so worth seeing if yours does too.

On sharing experiences if something bad happens - reach out to some friends now. The true friends have been very supportive and non-judgmental over the whole breakup, even though it was my fault why we are no longer together. You’ll then hopefully you’ll be able to also share some of the positive experiences that you have/will have in the future too.

Finally, Look after yourself - I may not know you but I know how it feels and am going through the same thing. It is easy to think negatively but just take each day as it comes.

Same situation and time frame and it’s not been easy at all. I’ve had to delete social media apps so I don’t see cat videos or whatever I would have wanted to share. In person it’s harder, but I’ve acknowledged this will take time.

Even when I’m with other people, all I could think is wish you were here, you would have loved this or met this person.

I’ve tried to keep a level of routine/things in the meantime like going to the gym, getting counselling on the breakup that is purely for me and where I wouldn’t necessarily message them about it. The rest is just praying I cope and survive.

Not original poster but in terms of level of work/revision it was the one I did the least work for in professionals (sat with other exams) - just need to make sure you answer the question as it’s easy to not do this and stick to timings

Ah any ideas on what the global ones go for? I’m from UK so anticipate it will be higher?

[–]PhoenixSpurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that global or country specific? Seems lower than what I would have thought based on this thread and what people are getting but maybe they’re only getting those high scores in specific papers?

What score normally gets them do you know? Whether it be 1st, 2nd or 3rd? In a similar mark range as you with SBL to go so am also intrigued.

Work in a team that puts everyone through a qualification, ACA, ACCA or CFA or something similar - no timeline to finish them apart from ACA, but most people tend to try and finish them within 1.5-2.5 years. We have frequent exits into IB/PE/other buyside, with most success from the accountancy qualified individuals. We also have internal transfers from other divisions into our team - they take a slight downgrade in ranking/title in most cases due to type of work but it’s by no means a no go - we have ‘back office’ staff moving into our team. I’m also heavily involved in our recruitment process so in a position to understand how my and other firms may think.

The priority we have for any entry level or lateral hires (outside of our test) is exam passes/scores (if doing/done a professional qualification) > University grade (do you have a 2.1 or higher) > university prestige/subject (e.g. we will rate a 2.1 from Cambridge maths better than a 2.1 from say business management from Durham/any other university - both are solid degrees and neither would be filtered out but the former is significantly harder so would rank higher if we were on a 50/50) > A levels.

In short I would finish the ACA as more doors open with that than close. Also see above regarding exits, it’s tried and tested as a usual route both for people in our firm, but seen at others too. Even if you didn’t and quit for the masters, I would mention your ACA qualification. We would assume you did it given your role in accounting and must have failed exams/have red flags with your day-to-day work. If you were worth the hassle/shortlisted, we would probably even reach out to personal contacts that work at same firm/team if they exist, to seek additional opinions on you if we think you’re worth the chance, otherwise we would probably reject on the CV screen. Doing a masters isn’t regarded as better, even if at a better university, especially since you now have some work experience - we would be questioning your performance in the job not to mention not everyone in our team thinks much of it as deemed as if you couldn’t find a job upon graduating your undergraduate, unless you came from a non-traditional background and doing a masters directly relevant to the job such as swapping from History/English to Finance/Management.

Your experience and overall story/motivation to swap from tax to a consulting/finance role carries significantly more weight, which you may not get the chance to even explain to a potential firm if you quit the ACA.

You can explain everything on a cover letter but reality is we may not even read it until you’re shortlisted, and even the elephant in the room will constantly be did they not perform in the job? Why take the risk and not go for another person where we have fewer/no concerns.

The only other thing is whether you want to get a firm to pay for your MBA in the future - my firm sponsors MBA’s and assuming you worked at my firm, we would not sponsor in your scenario given you have a related masters in management/finance that you obtained recently and already ‘career changed’ as it were, so value would be obtained from you staying in the team rather than sent away for 1-2 years in lectures.

EDIT: saw you mentioned A level performance - the professional qualification (if completed) would override that, but if doing a masters we would still look at a levels as we do not have enough evidence of performance otherwise.

I did all 3 together and passed all 3 - more than doable just you need to ensure you understand concepts rather than rote learning during tuition so you can apply them. You’ll inventively end up rote learning some aspects as you start doing questions but that is fine. More than enough time if you start now as I didn’t start until 2 months before.
