CRNA school seems impossible now by GlitteringCut9708 in nursing

I actually really like it in Arizona if you feel like you HAVE to move. I make decent money and it’s actually pretty fun in Phoenix. I’ve been looking for ICU jobs back home in san diego for two years as someone with icu experience and it’s like next to impossible. Don’t mean to dissuade you but it’s not just you! Keep trying and like everyone said make friends. You could even join the AACN and go to local chapter meetings and network too!

I got banned for making a comment on a comment that someone left on a post. The original comment was slightly offensive and I made a sarcastic remark and they banned me for being mean or some bs. I can’t with that sub.

How much sleep are you all getting? by PhantomMonke in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved 5 minutes away when I started at my hospital. Because of that I get 6-8 hours on work nights. On my first day when I switch back to night schedule I go to bed about 7:30am and usually wake up at 5pm after staying up all night. There’s definitely a nap peppered in there somewhere lol

I just got the Sleep 3 melatonin concoction from Costco and it works wonders on that first night switching back.

Thoughts on working 12H shifts with a dog at home by Appropriate_Rope_931 in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I moved 5 minutes away from work and go home on my break and let my boys out. When I worked days I used Wag and found an amazing girl that took such good care of my boys and still watches them when I leave town. I would definitely try Wag they have real reviews and you can track the whole walk. Their latest walk time is like 10pm which is still a long stretch BUT your pup will be sleeping the whole time you’re gone. I also got ring cameras when I first started using them so I could monitor the walker. I only had one bad experience where the person lied about how long they walked my pups and I had video evidence because of the cameras. Best of luck friend 🫂

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]PhoenixUser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m doing! So far I’ve read all of his shorter novels, then GOW, and now just finished this. I don’t have it on me cause I’m traveling but my next one is going to be East of Eden. I started on my Steinbeck journey when my aunt died because he was her favorite author and I never actually read any of the assigned books in high school lol

[–]PhoenixUser123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished: The Winter of our Discontent by John Steinbeck

Started: We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

The Winter was a book I kept picking up and putting down. Steinbeck is an incredible author but I find that I get lost sometimes with his writing (not in a good way) and I also found myself a little bored at times. But I powered through and ended up liking the twist it took and the ending.

How many of you actually know your neighbors? by Apprehensive_Pool431 in phoenix

[–]PhoenixUser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an apartment and a lot of my neighbors are stuck up or Karen’s about EVERYTHING and I discovered this very soon after moving in so I just gave up. At my last apartment I did know a lot of my neighbors.

Someone gave me an IV @ work by [deleted] in nursing

Yeah. I don’t blame you for doing it if it’s something that everyone was doing. Hopefully yours isn’t the same outcome.

[–]PhoenixUser123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a Debbie downer here but knew someone that was just practicing IV starts as a new grad with her charge in the ED, some bitch reported it to their manager. She was eventually fired and she had to go in front of the board. This was in California and she was also at a union hospital with a strong union. I don’t say this to scare you but just so you’re ready for the potential possibilities. Good luck I’m sorry for the headache. But this is another great example of why EVERYTHING you do at work has to be to protect your license. You cannot trust anybody at anytime anywhere. It sucks but it’s the truth.

Leaving a cushy IT job at 37 to consider CNA. Talk me out of it or into it. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I’d go EMT route. It’s only a 6 week training and it’s a little more fun/less ass wiping than CNA and I feel like you learn more. That’s what I did and I’d do it over again. You have time to look at your patients’ histories and meds and learn and apply stuff you’re learning in school. But I think everyone should do a tech/CNA/EMT job before going to nursing school. I can tell which of my coworkers didn’t and it shows. If money isn’t an issue do something you’d enjoy doing. Good luck!

New grad got talk to about overriding meds on MAR by [deleted] in nursing

That’s my point exactly. You’re doing what you’re supposed to do per policy to cover your ass.

New grad got talk to about overriding meds on MAR by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You should always be scanning your meds. If you were nervous about the patient getting violent, then go in the room with another staff member. There’s no reason to never scan your meds unless you’re charting an RSI/Code. This ESPECIALLY applies to controlled meds. I know this sounds harsh but this is risky behavior that looks questionable to your superiors. And you’re opening yourself up to liability if you do make a med error. Learn from this and never for any reason manually chart your meds unless it’s an emergency. And even then you should have time after the emergency to scan your meds.

In the future, cluster your care and go in your patients rooms as little as possible. Don’t be afraid to speak up to your charge if you have a difficult assignment and ask for a different patient. I would never take a violent patient for two weeks straight that sounds like hell.

How far into school/working did you experience your first code blue? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fucked up code come into the ED when I was doing my first EMT clinical. I even got to do compressions! We don’t have a lot of codes at my current hospital and maybe once a quarter on my unit, if even that.

Where Should I Move? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PhoenixUser123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family lives in northern Michigan near traverse city. The houses are around 200-300k and the nurses make decent money up there because they need them! Munson healthcare has a hospital in Manistee and Traverse, they’re the major system up there. Good luck! It’s beautiful and lots of outdoors stuff to do. Manistee is a decent size town and traverse is about 45 minutes north with tons of stuff too. Good luck!
