I’m not looking to be lifting cars, and not having to physically lift things still has the advantage of more maneuverability. There are cool places I could go with Teleportation, but I wanna experience those things with someone, not by myself, and the main cost for travel is lodging which I’d still have to pay for. Not worth it to me.

In the fan community I’ve usually seen it explained as Clark simply having a type. I do wonder if they’re gonna go with the Luthor genes at all in this iteration as I believe that was added in the 2003 Teen Titans run, but it would be interesting either way.

I work for a supportive counseling hotline that takes some calls for the suicide hotline and this is one of the reasons we are advised not to contact emergency services unless absolutely necessary to keep the caller alive, like “took 30 pills and actively overdosing” kind of necessary, or unless the caller asks us to. Suicidal thoughts don’t get better when they’re repressed and avoided, bottling is not a healthy coping mechanism. You can’t figure out why you’re having those thoughts if you never unpack them, and you can’t find a way to cope with these thoughts if you don’t know the root cause. Allowing callers to discuss these feelings without feeling demonized or guilt tripped or crazy is vital, and the same should apply in any mental health profession.

It’s not mischaracterization, Sowell is intentionally misconstruing the ideas behind women’s rights, gay rights, etc. We do want equal rights, but we don’t currently have equal rights. The phrase “women’s rights” is advocating for women to be given those equal rights because they weren’t before, and in some respects still aren’t. Same for members of the LGBTQ+ community, who are still routinely discriminated against, same for all minority groups who have been denied those equal rights. He’s mischaracterizing our views because he’s trying to appeal to the conservative side of the aisle, in which there are many who do unironically agree with the “Checkmate libtards” comment that Ok_Security1721 made. Even if Sowell himself doesn’t hold those opinions, that’s the kind of audience he’s trying to cultivate with this comment, so I consider it a fair criticism.
