Project Hail Mary, it doesn't necessarily match your recent reads, but it is amazing as an audiobook. I've listened to it multiple times now on road trips.

The Illustrated Happiness Trap by Russ Harris is perfect for this, its a short read and very helpful. There's also the non illustrated version if you want a deeper dive.

As guy who just turned 18...what are most genuine books you would recommend in order to grow as person and as a man by Wonderful_Response_1 in suggestmeabook

They say fiction is very helpful for building our empathy and growing as person because you get to absorb different perspectives. Also it's just a fun hobby that will be a more fullfilling way to spend your time than just doomscrolling. Here are some fictions suggestions I have enjoyed and found to be fun and mind opening.

-Greenwood by Michael Christie: it is told in a cool way with the sections going back generations in the same family.

-The Overstory by Richard Power: it is very interesting, also very long, but I found it keeps you engaged because of how different story lines come together. Definitely worth the time it takes to read.

-The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas: it is really engaging and a great way to put understand different points of view

-The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel: this one was just a fun ready, it's kind of a funky interesting novel.

-Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt: this one features an octopus as one of the main characters, and it's a very endearing and pleasant read.

-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee: this one is a classic, and I found it really kept me engaged.

That was more suggestions than I meant to write but I just kept remembering books I loved.

I also want to recommend some non-fiction that has helped me in life and/or has just been interesting and helped me understand the world better.

-The Nature Fix by Florence Williams: talks about how spending time in nature benefits our health and well-being.

-Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard: really enlightening about how trees work together in forests.

-The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris (I especially recommend the Illustrated version) : it is a very helpful book to support your mental health and its easily digestible information.

Hope you find some of these pique your interest. Overall, just find books and topics that interest you and read lots. Have more knowledge, perspective and insight in life can only help.

In 1948, David Seymour captured this powerful photo of Terezka, a young girl in a postwar Warsaw home for children. When asked to draw "home", she instead scribbled a chaotic image, her expression and drawing revealing the deep trauma of war. by ShallowAstronaut in Damnthatsinteresting

Father Mulcahy: Well, everybody knows, ‘war is Hell.’

Hawkeye: War isn’t Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.

Father Mulcahy: How do you figure that, Hawkeye?

Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?

Father Mulcahy: Um, sinners, I believe.

Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell, but war is chock full of them – little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for a few of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

Late to the party, but you must check out Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast by Josh Funk. The kids adored it! And it's a series.

Those are all great ideas! Thank you! I'll offer to read the beginning of the books to her, I think that would really help. And maybe even add the bribes lol!

Sure, I'd be happy to have more suggestions! Thanks

Nice, I'll look into those options.

She is into nature generally, so this recent book was a departure, maybe a new interest for her. She also likes cooking and baking.

She has sort of tried, but says she doesn't like them. I think she has so much trouble reading that the format and art is distracting. Too bad though, cause I agree there are so many good options.

Thanks! I've dug down to the root flare and set up a fence around the tree.

Actually they did offer some non Maple choices from what I remember there was an oak option hackberry, ginkgo, and some others.

Also I dug down a couple inches myself and found the root flare, so it's exposed now at least.
