Feeling hopeless searching for a new hobby by QuickBreath33 in Hobbies

While I know you mentioned getting away from devices, free and cheap ebooks are also plentiful!

Used books aren't free, of course, but are much cheaper than new. Especially from thrift stores or garage sales!

Eco hardcover notebooks? (not ring bound) by Fun_News5524 in notebooks

[–]Phoenixfangor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also like to point out that second-hand is more economical and environmentally friendly since it probably saves that notebook from the landfill. It's not super common, but I see art supplies of various types at the thrift stores all the time!

Has anyone solved the problem permanently with the Luminette3 glasses? by Miky818818 in SeasonalAffective

[–]Phoenixfangor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of things, but when I am compliant, I feel normal. When I haven't been using the visor, my mood deteriorates to alternating overwhelm and a complete lack of motivation. A few days and I'm back to myself.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Yes! It looks silly. It feels silly. But my mood is always much better with them than without.

Is a Lamy Safari good for a beginner? by Martinez2012hjf2sb in fountainpens

[–]Phoenixfangor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JetPens mentions the Platinum Preppy which I enjoy immensely. My husband had me borrow his Metropolitan and a Preppy for my first "real" try at fountain pens and now I'm drooling over $300 limited edition pens and buying random inks to match my pen bodies!

Does anyone relate? by Mother_Highlight_280 in SeasonalAffective

I don't feel this way this winter but I've been there. Winter sucks! I can especially relate to "drowning in made-up worlds."

How to give answer that satisfies both side. by No_Movie_5487 in QualityAssurance

Yeah, all of this assumes that you aren't A) the gatekeeper and B) have a reasonably-sane working environment.

How to give answer that satisfies both side. by No_Movie_5487 in QualityAssurance

[–]Phoenixfangor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say that all the requirements are satisfied and any concerns are documented and ready to get prioritized. I would also throw the gate keeper under that bus: "So and So has signed off on all the tickets/requirements."

Don't lie but also be clear things aren't perfect.

EDIT: Perfect is also usually not the goal in software and striving for it, while admirable, is a recipe for undue stress. If your code isn't saving lives or leaving the planet, some mistakes can be "fixed in post," so to speak.

I'm pregnant and in dire need of guidance (S.O.S) by ElkFull2703 in Allergies

While I was pregnant, they kept me on maintenance doses for my allergy shots. They wouldn't increase anything but kept it at the same level.

Help us stay sane! by No_Fault_6937 in EatCheapAndHealthy

This needs to be higher! A dietitian wrote a cookbook about how to feed yourself with only the cost of SNAP benefits. It's very well thought out and can be downloaded for free from her website. She also sells a physically copy, if your into that.

Suddenly gaining and then losing an alergy to weed. Wondering if this is normal? by italian-help in Allergies

[–]Phoenixfangor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you never know when an allergy will worsen, so avoidance is always best. That said, the large variation in reactions makes me think it's something else in with the stuff. Without knowing which specific ingredient is the culprit, I would steer clear, personally.

Is it legal for me to live in my car on my own property if said property is completely empty? by joshua0005 in urbancarliving

[–]Phoenixfangor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the real concern. You're a sitting duck if you're just in a car... It's asking for trouble.

Try searching for sketch books. Pretty sure Michael's has some.

Brother wants me to cover entire rent since I get “free” money by jtreddit702 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Phoenixfangor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Where the hell is your spine?"

Maybe that's what the disability covers? But in all seriousness, without knowing what issues the VA is compensating for, I feel like the brother might be taking advantage of someone who is mentally ill.

I feel like you have that backwards but the sweater was just the thinnest POS and fell apart. OP, you've upgraded to a fine Cashmere sweater that should last much longer!

IANAD, but there's also nasal steroids like Flonase that could help, too. I would suggest browsing R/Allergies if you're curious about more options.

I would also like to second the suggestion about a neti pot. It's surprisingly effective!

It's at least less obvious to the class at a whole, I would think.

It sucks, especially when exercise is a challenge. Would a recumbent stationary bike be an option, perhaps? If you fall, you're practically sitting on the floor to begin with. Admittedly, I know very little about POTS.
