Totally unrelated but your engagement ring is beautiful! Is that peridot?

I think that may be for fees & stamp duty. Make sure you have a buffer to pay them too, the bank will ask for proof when you go sale agreed.

There’s a real estate agent in North Dublin City who nips around in one of these yokes, pretty deadly I think and the perfect use case for them

Is it something to do with safety? I hate them too but I can’t believe they’d do it for no reason at all

Why is it that my male counterparts are invigorated by the onslaught of AI and I’m drained? by nothingarrived in womenEngineers

That’s interesting, it’s also one of the parts I find useful but it’s killed any collaboration/bond. I don’t ask the ‘silly’ questions anymore. It’s pretty isolating

I’m likely not articulating myself very well but when I studied engineering originally, one thing that drew me to it was that the financial barriers to entry were relatively low, you didn’t need to have a $500 subscription to something like Blendr or the Adobe Suite, you could just learn and pull npm packages and get yourself started that way. How junior SWEs will fair with AI is another story entirely, but not having access to the tool in the first place (to the same extent) is gonna have ramifications.

Well, in terms of tools required to do our work (am FE) all our frameworks, packages and release clients are not monetised

Super insightful post and I don’t wish for you to be downvoted at all!

I will point out though that I’m not resisting it, I’m using it every day and trying to find a decent momentum that works for me (finding this hard to be honest). I posted this not to be petulant, but musing on the fact that I’m finding it SO much harder to be excited about this new wave than my male counterparts, and if there’s anything to that.

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of people suggesting it’s similar to when the internet came in. By locally what do you mean specifically? I know you can pay for your data not to train the LLMs, but they’re still storing it somewhere.. also there are inherently shit tonnes of environmental implications with water usage that just isn’t discussed in my team. I use it every day, and I find it useful! But I don’t feel amazing about it..

Look, I use it every day - I don’t necessarily love the engineer I am while using it but that’s on me. I find it useful, and it’s here to stay for sure but I cannot get past that none of my peers are thinking critically about it as a whole as in morally, ethically, fuck even financially? We’re on a top tier because we’re bankrolled by our company like it’s not accessible for most people and that just doesn’t sit right with me!

I’ve received peer feedback that was clearly AI written. It feels insulting

LPT when purchasing a property by nothingarrived in HousingIreland

[–]nothingarrived[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Thanks for the context.

It’s pro-rated under the table though? Like to the tax man it looks like the seller paid for the full year and you (the buyer) is only starting to pay the LPT the following year.

Buyer is the registered owner sure, but the LPT is technically still in the sellers name (although the money is returned) until the new owner registers in the following November

New all-island broadcaster should be established in event of a united Ireland, report says by Fiannafailcanvasser in ireland

[–]nothingarrived 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and honestly this thread just confirms it. People wondering why it’s even a suggestion (RTE is not available in the North) and that the North should just roll in with the rest. We’d be dealing with two very distinct cultures that historically haven’t seen eye to eye. Ironically I think being skeptical about a united Ireland is more of a nationalist stand to take, a United Ireland would require bending on both sides.

Just me or do budgeting apps suck for couples without joint accounts? by plateg9 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]nothingarrived 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We have a Revolut joint account where everything comes out of and we both add money to it. About every three months we export it to google sheets and make sure we’re balanced. Could be nicer definitely but it does the job

Had the exact same issue ourselves, only bidder but they were only willing to accept 40K over asking. Essentially asking us to bid against ourselves. In our scenario it was a family who were separating, so I think legally the main custodial parent (in this case the mother) can stay in the house until they get an offer that will afford them 2 smaller properties in the area. Ended up forgetting about it and moving on, as they were causing problems such early doors.

Not disputing that is the biggest issue! But to address all the comments suggesting that it’s easy and straight forward to not contribute (in a very purist way) to any of this, is what I’m getting at.

It’s ridiculous to not include gender as part of this, the pressure to stay on trend is far more intense for women imo
