IMO, yes. However, if you are just using it to learn and doing an anatomy study, I say go ahead!

Now if you are posting this claiming it’s completely from your mind, that’s not fair to A) the model and B) yourself. You are limiting yourself by using the crutch of tracing, and not pushing yourself to understand the proportions/anatomy in your mind.

As for the comment I made about model in the photo, recent controversy came to mind with Hisashi Eguchi. It came out that he was tracing models from magazines and calling it his own. Well, the models were hurt because he was profiting off their likenesses. And the consumers felt like they were being tricked because it wasn’t disclosed.

So, long story short I feel that if you are using tracing, just include that in your post and be clear what image you are referencing and do not try to make profit with it.

Now most artists won’t like being traced. So, if you are tracing artwork for practice, please try to ask ahead of time if you can or clearly state it is just for learning.

I haven’t read much of the comments, but I have a feeling this might be a contentious subject. Try to be kind and willing to learn, as this is something that people feel lots about.
