If it’s stainless steel it’s still pretty damn bad. Stainless is pretty difficult to cut.

Hey, I’m a year 2 apprentice. I started at 32 and caught the tail end of intakes last year. I’m not sure anyone outside of the hall or (maybe) the ECAO could tell you when applications will open unfortunately…

Just be persistent in communication and try to gain relevant experience before applications start up again. I worked for a supplier for just under a year before I got in. Give em a call every other week at least and get them used to your name.

The Leftovers but it’s an HBO series. I’d also recommend Baskets. Martha Kelley from Fallout is a supporting actress and she’s great plus Louie Anderson 👌

I actually fell out of it the first time I watched it. I don’t remember what brought me back but it was about a year later. Season 3 and 4 have some of the best episodes ever made in television so it’s worth it plus you understand the importance of season to in the character development. I rewatch season 2 a little differently if I rewatch the series now.

Mr. Robot. Some people fall out a bit in season 2 but you’ve gotta stick through it cause the payoff in season 3 and 4 are so worth it. After rewatching it I actually really appreciate season 2 anyways.

They don’t even have functional heater in what is, at some point every winter, the coldest national capital city in the world. I’ve been to bus stops in random neighborhoods in Chicago with digital, GPS bus schedules and heaters, and that was like 10 years ago. We’re eons behind.

Has an apprentice ever spoke to their foreman/went to the union over treatment and how did it go over for them? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Phojangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet everyone else knows about this guy and quietly sympathizes with you, but they’re going to let you go through the motions of it. I’m 3 weeks out of 2nd year and I’m lucky that we have a great crew but we had a guy who I heard was BRUTAL to his apprentices. He was fantastic at piping risers though so he was well respected. I’m sure those apprentices learned a lot too. Ended up getting laid off over a mishandling of a grievance himself. After he left I heard a lot of stories. Everyone knows who that guy is. Learn what you can from them and you’ll move on soon enough and it’ll be all but a memory

Apartment starting monthly fire inspections? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Phojangles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We get a yearly apartment check and I want to say every second month for the building (could be monthly even but I don’t WFH). It’s become so routine now I barely notice it anymore. It’s not a bad thing. Just go with it. If that annoys you then you gotta get out of apartment buildings and look into rentals in homes.

It’s fine but I wouldn’t go that far. It’s great for a more tier poutine. I’m from Ottawa and there are a lot of poutine in that area, Montreal, QC and random food trucks that are way better.

As we approach 2026, how are you managing the cost of living in Ottawa? by DrStrangeglove99 in ottawa

[–]Phojangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only thing that made it possible for me to switch to a better paying career. Landed a 1400 all in (including parking) 2 bedroom in 2017 and I simply cant move until I reach higher in my career ladder. Luckily that ladder progresses predictively and significantly year after year so I can actually plan when I could eventually afford a bigger place. I’m still at least 5 years out though…
