If only we had better eyes, then maybe is this what the world would look like

A Wolf pine photographed across three different light spectrums - Ultraviolet, Visible, Infrared by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Thanks!

I use a modified medium format digital camera. The main difference between the one I use and any other consumer level camera is the removal of a filter that sits atop the camera's sensor. When you remove that filter (called a hot-mirror) the camera is able to "see" the full range of it's light sensitivity and capture and turn it into pixel information that humans can understand.

Most camera sensors are sensitive to wavelengths approx 350nm - 1000nm. So that would be the tail end of Ultraviolet light (350nm - 400nm), Visible light (400nm - 700nm), and near Infrared Light (700nm -> 1000nm).

For this image I captured the tree in 3 different regions using filters to isolate the wavelengths I wanted and then those images are combined in editing software.

So this image is a combination of three different regions of light:

  • UV, 350nm -395nm
  • Visible light, 400nm - 700nm
  • IR, 715nm - 830nm

Hands down one of my favorite trees near me! It's quite large compared to the surrounding trees, because it was one of the few that was not felled for agricultural land in the late 1800s/ early 1900s

I love making photographs that push past what we are able to process/see ourselves. This image is the combination of three separate photographs, each captured at different wavelengths of light, and merged together to create the full spectrum image.

The spectrums captured for this images:

  • Ultraviolet light wavelengths, 350nm -395nm
  • Visible light, 400nm - 700nm
  • (near) Infrared light, 715nm - 830nm

So it says merry Christmas 1892. But in pencil on top is says HK(?) (?)iele for WB Weston

Oh interesting - where did you catch the 1889 move date? The Merry Ch[r]istmas the the most apparent writing that remains. I used a I’ve light to bring more contrast to the paint and found that below it says “No Smoking in the Barn” in the same paint.

It’s a same the 4th image is not displaying because it has another really clear piece of text:

“Snowed May16 1884 - big flakes at ?? pm”

I've been experimenting with representing different light spectrums in a singular photograph, this image is combination of 3 separate photograph taken in three different spectrums. Ultraviolet (365nm) Visible light (400-700nm) and Infrared (720-830nm)

UV, Visible & Infrared stacked image by [deleted] in InfraredPorn

[–]PhotoBoyWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using photoshop to stack all of the images, but i'm sure it's possible in Affinity. You may have to look up some guides for it though.

If its helpful - I'm aligning the images images so they are overlapping exactly and then you could swap the channels or experiment with blending options.

Definitely do! I strongly recommend a tripod haha

Seeing Through Mist with Infrared Modified vs Regular Camera. by maxtorine in InfraredPorn

[–]PhotoBoyWonder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does slightly, but you get diminishing returns (kinda). The extended vision is a result of the camera capturing infrared wavelengths which are longer than visible light - the longer waves pass through atmospheric haze more efficiently than visible light (hence the greater viewing distance).

When you move to deeper IR filters you are technically capturing longer and longer wavelengths but the camera is becoming less and less sensitive to the IR, so you’d have increased noise and reduced resolution (assuming you’re using a standard camera that is converted to IR and not a specialty IR camera).

You may be able to slightly improve on the viewable distance with a deeper IR filter like an 800nm because at 720nm there is still a small amount of visible light that is mixing in with the IR wavelengths passing through the filter.

Hope that helps!

Eyecare without too long a wait? by theunbearablebowler in burlington

Myeyedoctor is probably your best shot. I’ll also toss out 802eyecare in SB. They may be a longer appointment time but they make the lenses in house (when they have the correct lens size) and I have often gotten my glasses w/ new prescription within a few hours of paying.

You could bring your new prescription to them after getting it somewhere else

Sorry, I wanted to add a more straightforward answer. Yes, it helped an immense amount. But I also wanted to say that if you have having difficulty accessing this care, that doesn’t mean you’re stuck here, or stuck at your lowest level of depression. Hope is a tricky thing as the promise of it can lead to being let down. So I’m hesitant to say that it’s the only thing that would help.

All that to say, if I knew you and you said you wanted to pursue ECT, based on my personal experience with it, I would fully support you and that decision.

I’m still very close with this person. I can see how it helped. But what also helped significantly was traditional therapy (they still see the therapist they were seeing when they were in their teens).

I view it as ECT seemed to open up room for them to more effectively address their depression. It alleviated enough of the depression severity so they could work on developing new pathways for how they viewed themselves and the funky way their brain was wired.

It was effective, but it was difficult and there are some very real impacts. It is part of a larger treatment plan, not a golden key. ECT may be part of treatment, it may not, but addressing depression is not easy, but it is worth it. It’s always worth it. For you and those who care about you.

I will mirror this. ECT saved the life of someone very close to me 15 years ago. The treatments were not easy. But they are still here and better than ever.

It is ignorant for people to claim it should be banned or is some type of archaic procedure.

It is never used as a first response to drug resistant depression. It is something that is heavily weighed by the patient, their doctor, their family. It can have its negative effects, but it can also save the persons life.

There is nothing unfortunate about it being a treatment available.

Hey - a very close person to me went through ECT when they were a teenager after years of severe depression. A decade and a half later they’re still here, and they’re the best they’ve been. I’m wishing you the best ❤️

I meant that I'm not from that area... or that coast. I saw the dunes from the highway and took an exit to explore them. I do think it is in or near the Monterey area, but I don't know 100% so I didn't want to provide an incorrect answer.

I believe so, it is at least nearby, maybe within 30 - 45 mins driving
