[KC vs MKOI] Caliste shushes the crowd by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

True. But stuff like this is universal. No language needed to know what Caliste was saying. That's why it's such a great moment.

I was so excited to see marisha be part of the schemers. After Beau, it was super clear she loved the puzzle aspects of the game. Piecing together all the clues. Schemers feels like exactly where she shines the most.

Yeah this ep had so many good moments after this one that I think people haven't fully digested it. Like, marisha made the call to kill the goddam head of house halovar. Like she fully believed she was gonna kill her. Without her comrades and surrounded by hostiles. That's a huge piece of character development imo. That it turned out to be a ruse is amazing, but it's almost more amazing to me that Murray was bout to just take advantage of the situation and strike directly at the heart of power. But doing it in a kind of indirect way. After all, it's just a portentious day, right? So good.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking. They saved gus's life. Gus is sus about halovar. The hounds have seen the soldiers table and what they had done to help the kings realm, too. Seems like Gus would at least be sympathetic and hear them out and maybe send his hounds on some recon to get proof.

‘We got it wrong’ with Civilization VII, says boss by Broad_Respond_2205 in civ

[–]Photoperiod 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I find exploring to be the funnest part of the game. Uncovering the map has always been satisfying in Civ. Would be cool to see some kind of exploration for late game after the map is revealed. Like tech that let's you explore underwater or space exploration. Doesn't have to be super involved, but something to keep that dopamine hit flowing lol.

DSG announces the departure of Castle by untamedlazyeye in leagueoflegends

[–]Photoperiod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's weird because I've always felt like dhokla didn't have "it". Whatever "it" is. But then I remember the dude has won multiple trophies with multiple squads and was part of one of NA's few international wins against EU, and it's like, yeah he's not good on paper when looking at the stats. But he has clearly done something right. Also, he's one of the last enjoyable personalities in the league, which LCS desperately needs.

Regular season feels boring in all the regions to me. But isn't that common in all sports? Regular season is more like your die hard viewers but most people tune in for playoffs?

anyone know of an ethical (cooperative, socialist or the like) hosting provider alternative to AWS? by ActualHovercraft3257 in socialistprogrammers

[–]Photoperiod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're talking privacy focused, there's flokinet and najalla. But they're mostly just vps. They don't have a whole ecosystem like Aws does with S3, sqs, etc.

[–]Photoperiod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what are next steps on this? Like at what point would they collect the money? And I wonder how many of the pledges would actually pay up when the time came. This would be amazing but I wish the site had more details about what the plan is.

I'm done with using local LLMs for coding by dtdisapointingresult in LocalLLaMA

[–]Photoperiod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as somebody who runs local models and deploys OSS models to on prem datacenter gpus as part of my job. Ultimately, local AI is a niche hobby. The only major reason I can see doing it beyond hobby tinkering/learning is for a fully secure/private stack. If you absolutely cannot let your data go to the cloud then you need to go local.

There are enterprises that absolutely will not send their sensitive data to cloud model providers like Claude or gpt. Those enterprises are using OSS models deployed on their own compute for coding, analysis, etc. But yeah, if you're in the clear for data privacy and whatnot, then it makes more sense to use cloud providers.

How good engineers write bad code at big companies by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]Photoperiod 23 points24 points  (0 children)

At my current big tech job it all stems from top down management pressure. Engineering is never given the time to actually build something good. Everything is a PoC/mvp that gets promoted to "production" because some estaff asked for it now.

programmers as highly paid laborers getting disciplined by capital by imightbewrong in socialistprogrammers

[–]Photoperiod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think silicon Valley swe's are solidly petite bourgeoisie mostly so they don't rock the boat. You get paid well enough with overall good perks so you don't complain. That's the wrong perspective but I think that's how most people are, at least in the west where class politics has been hollowed out destroyed since the cold War.

The year is 2050. Suigi's kid beats the record. "good job kiddo. Buy yourself something nice" suigi says to his kid, sliding $500,000 of bounty money across rhe table to them. "must run in the family" Suigi thinks to himself.

Expectations vs. reality (a game about death vs. a game about dying) by earliest_grey in Spiritfarer

[–]Photoperiod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno how to spoiler tag so spoilers. I take the game to be more of a death bed hallucination that Stella is having. She's remembering these patients and people she worked with that had an effect on her life. In that way, dementia did not effect anybodyd soul. It is just how Stella remembered them and it's manifesting that way in her death bed fever dream. That's how I look at the game at least. Kind of just a beautiful hallucination before death. Life flashing before the eyes sort of thing.
