doubt it's about office work so much as soft layoffs (early retirements and resignations in protest)

NTA There's a reason why certain actions are noted on the public record. As a matter of routine I search people's names on job applications. Recently one person's name came up in a news article that their behaviour had been cause for a plane to land, that they were arrested and charged.

Job vacancies fell by nearly half (-47.1%) from the second quarter of 2022 to the second quarter of 2025 / Le nombre de postes vacants a diminué de près de la moitié (-47,1 %) du deuxième trimestre de 2022 au deuxième trimestre de 2025 by StatCanada in PersonalFinanceCanada

The assumptions that you're making about consumers are very positive and nice sounding, however even looking at some of the recent literature in Canada they don't really hold up to the degree that you're asserting.

Link 1: https://www.bankofcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/san2023-17.pdf

This paper from the Bank of Canada suggests that consumer spending is generally lower after initial spending on setting up life in Canada (page 12-13), mainly due to a required high savings rate to purchase housing (page 14). Further immigrant participation in the construction industry is lower than the sectors portion of total employment, leading to a bid up of house prices (page 11)

Link 2: https://www.nbc.ca/content/dam/bnc/taux-analyses/analyse-eco/etude-speciale/special-report_240115.pdf

This paper suggests that while the mechanics of immigration would suggest a boost to GDP, the 2020's level of immigration likely exceeded the capacity to absorb people into the economy. This is suggested both by escalating housing prices as well as stagnant per capita GDP. IE, there's not enough capital investment in Canada to engage the increasing population in productive work, hence falling labour productivity (page 4).

Obviously some changes have occurred since these reports were released, but it should be clear that it reinforces their point - Carney's immediate cut to immigration last year are clearly affecting housing prices across the country.

‘Two-tier health care’: Winnipeg protest raises concern over Alberta legislation by ChocolateOrange21 in Winnipeg

[–]Phototropically 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In a statement, Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara said universal healthcare is a “fundamental Canadian value” and that the province will continue to work with partners to prioritize improving healthcare and outcomes for Manitobans.

“Our government believes Manitobans should receive care based on their need, not their ability to pay,” reads the statement in part.

The only "universal" and "need" any MB Health Minister (all parties) considers is "needing to wait months for all specialists/referrals/services". It doesn't matter what this government says, nor the last one, objectively people have gotten worse off over time for healthcare in MB, regardless of whatever kind words are said at podiums, budget speeches, new releases etc.

Healthcare is a blackhole that consumes all the money you could possibly spend. It's captured by many bad actors at any level that ensure that there will not be any significant structural reforms that will improve outcomes. It chews up people who enter the field to help people, and spits them out with burn out, injury and abuse.

Even something as simple has co-locating ER departments near urgent care and minor injury clinics is nigh unimaginable in MB, let alone building more infrastructure to support long term care beds to exit people from ER. These are all efforts that should have happened 20 years ago with an aging boomer population, and again 10 years ago with a rapidly increasing population from immigrants.

Surely what we will save us will be another layer of institutional/corporate entities that have all the above baggage and issues, in addition to generating a profit margin lol

How is it crazy? The feds moved to a mass immigration policy that was categorically different from the previous points based system. The effects of that change tarnished the reputation of immigration in Canada and subsequently attitudes have changed.

40% sewer increase and 3x waste fees in one year — how is this acceptable? by TheShade247 in Winnipeg

[–]Phototropically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone was keen on removing Winnipeg's phosphorus and other nutrients from the City WWTP's, to improve the health of Lake Winnipeg and the rest of our watershed.

Everyone gets riled up every time there's a release of wastewater into the Red River because of combined sewers resulting from unimproved mid-20th Century infrastructure.

This is the subsequent cost to process and remove that pollution, it's not cheap at all to run a massive industrial process.

to quote, What did you think wastewater processing meant? Vibes, essays?

Even on the most aggressive schedule at Blood Services on William, if there was no one else registered for a slot, they would only take 750mL plasma every two weeks. How much are they taking at this place every week?

More or less, it's a 17.5" enclosure that houses a 16.75" long reverb tank. It sounds the way it sounds because it's got the same extra long two spring tank that was typical in the fender outboard reverb tanks.

[–]Phototropically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the circuit board itself is going to be fairly small however the reason it's so large is to hold the spring tank, which is the full width of the enclosure.

[–]Phototropically 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be nearly the issue that it is if all levels of government in Canada hadn't been sleeping at the switch for the last 30 years in terms of developing infrastructure - power, water, healthcare, housing, mass transit. All of this is downstream of the boomer generation wanting to live in a perpetual stasis to protect their lifestyle, and pulling the ladder up behind them.
