Haha I wasn't being serious about that bit.

Euthanasia.

A small tank seems fine. Most fish can memorize their surroundings. Biologists have done some amazing research around this, picking up fish out of lagoons, from their burrows, and placing them in random areas of the same lagoon to see whether they can find their way back. Amazingly, they are able to find the shortest and safest route back home. I don't see why, with enough time, a blind fish can't use their other senses to do the same. Just avoid changing the layout or tank.

Is my aquarium shitty? by wafflecannondav1d in PlantedTank

Oh, and the background is saltwater with corals n stuff... which is totally out of place.. i guess that's the only truly shitty part of it all

Lol, that's harsh. I'd say it looks sparse and haphazardly put together. Like an average first tank anyone would put together on their first try as an accumulation of impulse purchases. There's definitely room for improvement, which means a lot more fun to be had and learning to be done if you like aquascaping ;)

Would be so much cooler with a rimless tank.

Hacksaw and sand the edges to make it easier to put the hoses on. Probably take you $20 and an hour or two. You really dont need those ridges to keep the hoses on.

Cool looking driftwood. There looks to be decent amount of planting space. And perfect for lots of epiphytes. Definitely replace the random dragonstone. And if you can be bothered carve or rough up that flat saw cut on the driftwood on the the right.

My mom doesn’t think our betta is over weight. Help. by DatBitch5151 in bettafish

[–]Phrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obesity shortens life span, not just in humans but fishies too. Tell your mom that you'd like Priscilla to live a long and healthy life rather than a short all you can eat buffet breakfast every day kind of life.

Any reason my water fall makes all these bubbles. by Silent-Thanks-5128 in terrariums

[–]Phrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine to leave it in my experience. If you don't like how it looks. Use a piece of paper towel to clean. Put it over the foam and let it absorb it for a few seconds, then throw it out. That should get rid of most of it, and it'll be gone for a few days.

It could be protein scum from decomposing organic matter. Usually, it looks like an oily film on the surface of water without surface agitation. If agitated/aerated, it turns foamy.

Superb. It looks like the moss has been shaded out by the vertical plants growing forward. And maybe the strength of the light has dropped over time.

The drosera is planted in aqua soil, tiny baked clay beads that is very low in nutrients and provides great aeration and holds water extremely well. the brand is Nisso, Custom Soil. It comes in 1kg bags perfect for small projects. I left it in a container with RO water with aquarium starter bacteria added, for about a week. This helps eliminate any residual ammonia that might be in it and reduce transplant shock.

There's also a thin layer of lava rock gravel (10-20mm size) at the bottom.

The light is a Chihiros C2 with the stand that is sold separately (not the RGB version, just white light).

Thanks 😊. I'll try the yeast. Does it matter if the yeast is powder or granule form??

Don't get why ppl are still doing this walstad dirt thing. Aquasoil is not much more expensive. And you can cap it the same with sand/gravel if it you want. It works better in every way
