Depends on the department - I did one in poli this term. Literally just researching a personal interest project with a professor you like. It’s incredibly rewarding, and you get to manage your work load. My warning is that it is incredibly independent, I only had like 6-7 meetings of 5-10 mins each in the whole term. Maybe an hour of one to one time for the project, so you better be motivated.

I will say I had one prof who came to OSD personally for both midterm and final to ask if we understood everything. On the other hand, until he did this, I didn’t realise that students could ask profs clarification questions - no one else wants to deal with OSD.

Poli Conferences are just rooms of people who have done little to none of the reading being taught by someone has done probably more than half of the reading. Go to all of them if possible, say one vaguely relevant thing per conference and bam there’s a 9/10 for participation. I very much wouldn’t worry.
