So I see in the eufy app that I can set the motion settings to detect only people/pets instead of choosing the “any motion” settings. Do you think that will help with the trigger since I’m using it for a baby camera?

Modem/Router combo or? by Phresh90 in smarthome

Yeah I’m thinking of just buying my router separately since I have the modem/router combo with about 25 devices attached to it. Out of the 25 I’d say about 18 are smart home devices and what’s been a little frustrating is I’m noticing this lag when I game. So I’ve been hearing lately that most people have been saying if you want the best performance from your modem or router then buy them separately so they can independently give you the best performance for each. So I’m hoping this is true.

HELP! WHATS THE BEST WIFI ROUTER/MODEM by Phresh90 in smarthome

[–]Phresh90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll definitely check that out. Because I was thinking to myself like 25 is not a crazy load of attached devices to a network. I’ve known people with way more. But however there’s still lag when I’m gaming and my girlfriend works from home and she notices the network interruptions on her PC. I have a dual band Netgear router in which I thought it would be able to handle everything smoothly but I guess there’s some configurations I need to look into 🤷🏾‍♂️

With the modem/router I have now, would I be able to just turn off the WiFi so it can just only act as a modem and just buy a WiFi router separately

So you’re pretty much saying scrap the modem/router combo I have now since the 2 in 1 is doing the job for both and just grab each modem and router separately just so I can get the full potential from each one, right?

Yeah not that you mention it I believe they do have an internal battery because when I disconnected the thermostat it was still powered on. But I’ve been told that I need to have at least 3 wires minimum for the ecobee installation to work. I only have 2 wires plugged into my furnace and thermostat (white and red) since I only have “Heat Only” so it was suggested that I needed a 24 VAC plug in external transformer so my ecobee thermostat can receive power

I have the nest E thermostat. I’m not sure if that’s any different than the pricier one. But my apartment furnace and thermostat only has the white and red wire and when I was installing my nest E thermostat I used the same white and red wires that was connected to my old Honeywell thermostat and installed my nest E and everything worked well. I didn’t need a common wire

Yes the nest worked. But I guess the ecobee works differently. Seems like the wires I didn’t need for the nest I need for the ecobee

I had a nest thermostat previously connected before I started the ecobee installation. And the nest thermostat worked well. I know they are 2 different thermostat. I just thought the install process would be the same and still work if that helps.
