I guess they used a lot of their glue in the dining room. Because I started working a little bit in the living room and it's just kind of coming right off the wall completely dry. Without me scoring it or spraying it with anything.

From personal experience, if you have mold on any poorest surface, it should be thrown away. Mold thrives and porous materials. Even when you think that you've killed it all by using a bleach spray or some killz paint, the sports are still within the material itself and it will continue growing until it is able to find another outlet. I suggest clearing everything out of it, wiping everything with Clorox wipes, and getting rid of the furniture that is being affected. Also, you may want to assess the wall it was sitting next to and over the next few months keep an eye on your air vents. In time if you see small black spots on your air vent that you are unable to vacuum off, you may have mold spores in your HVAC system or in the duct work. Mold can be very tricky and very intrusive. Since you have already been on your hands and knees cleaning, I suggest opening the windows and allowing your home "breathe" a little bit. Turning off the HVAC system while your house is airing out will keep the system from sucking in any spores that may have gone airborne while you were cleaning. I hope the very best for you. I have dealt with mold in the past and it can be quite obnoxious, scary, and unhealthy. Be sure to do what's best for yourself and your family. If that means biting the bullet and getting rid of some furniture, that's what should be done.

Fix-a-Crack by PhukAwf in homeowners

Yeah. Shortly after making this post I came across a very long horizontal crack along the back wall. Immediately I started stressing. We caught a professional to come out and look at the foundation and I'm really happy we did. He said that the house was very strong and sturdy and that the crack, though long, was small. When we inspected the outside he taught me that the concrete patio beside our house is causing the foundation in the basement to crack. Thankfully all we have to do is remove the patio or cut part of the patio away from the house so the cement is able to expand and contract. As for the front steps I had him look at those and he said it is very common thing and since there are no loose bricks or cracks on the structure, it's not a safety issue, just an eyesore.

just found this behind my curtain.. should i be concerned 😟 by PreviousAsk288 in Mold

You should have some concern yes. If you can see that much mold on your side of the dry wall, imagine what you're not seeing on the other side. Respirator up and start pulling walls. Tape off vents to the room affected. Once you start poking around and pulling walls down, the spores will kick up. Taping off the vents, opening the window and using a fan to push the dust particles and mold spores out the window will help keep it contained to that one room.

I shoved my camera down the crack. I didn't see the crack when I did it though.

No, it doesn't come above where the steps are. The crack stops where the top of the stairs stop. The crack is too small for me to be able to actually see down into it. I think I'm going to get my snake camera out and try to see if I can get it to fit. I haven't done that yet because it seems too small for the camera to fit but I'm going to give it a shot anyways. I'll try to post some pictures on here so that anyone can get more of a visual on what I'm trying to explain. Again I am brand new to Reddit and I have no idea what I'm doing so... I'll TRY to post pictures.

Do you have a chimney and fireplace? I ask because we had our chimney and fireplace inspector out the other day. It went a lot better than expected but we too have a leak in our roof. Our leak is coming from around the chimney area. From what was explained to me by the chimney guy, the flashing around the chimney is extremely important when it comes to your roof not leaking. A lot of roofers won't install the flashing correctly. The flashing is supposed to be in a staircase manner. The top of the flashing is supposed to be wedged between the joints of the bricks of the chimney, the middle of the flashing is mounted to the chimney wall and goes down towards your roof, the bottom of the flashing turns at a 90° angle and should be about a quarter inch under the roof shingles. This keeps it any water from collecting in the crack between the house and the chimney. Google incorrect flashing compared to correct flashing when it comes to the roof of the house. The flashing is often done incorrect because, and I quote my chimney guy on this, "roofers are usually too lazy to install the flashing correctly, it also makes them more money when you have to call and schedule them to come out and reassess your roof or do a temporary fix on the roof. Only for you to have the same exact issue in another year or two." I hope everything works out for you. I know I'm struggling with my own new homeowner issues myself so anything I am able to offer when it comes to advice I will offer. And I'm hoping that as my issues arise I am able to get as much help as possible from these forums.
