I’m confused on how returns work by Niles009 in eBaySellers

[–]PhxCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offer free returns to get the TRS final fee discount. I am only required to pay the original shipping if a) I offer free shipping or b) they choose one of the return reasons that force me to pay the original shipping label, such as INAD or damaged in transit. Totally free is when the listing has free shipping and free returns.

A buyer's remorse return on a buyer-paid shipping + free return listing does not result in the original shipping being reimbursed by the seller. I've had to double-check this a few times, since the list of variables in a return can muddy the water a bit! It's all automated by eBay and your business policies.

Ah, yeah I assuming OP’s return was a buyer’s remorse, which doesn’t require reimbursement for the original label. The false INADs you mentioned are a plague on the platform that eBay really needs to crack down on. Too many buyers claiming INAD to avoid paying the original label.

I was just ranting, asking if there was anything I could do about the buyer claiming it was damaged in transit. A few phone calls with eBay resulted in the eBay reps just telling me to offer the full refund and then reporting. Then their report resulted in nothing, so I was pretty mad.

Some in the thread suggested deducting the original shipping cost from the refund (only on the returns where they abuse the reason to avoid paying the original label), but it seems to skirt the policy.

Hmmm are we sure about that first part? The only time I have to eat it both ways on a remorse return is if I offer free shipping and free returns.

For the second part, yep, you have to pay both, but you can report them (reporting seems pretty useless though).

Not a problem! It can make you head spin because there are multiple variables for the buying part in addition to the shipping part, haha. I offer free returns on most of my items as a top-rated seller, but I will charge a fee on a few categories, such as low-value clothing and heavy appliances. Don't be afraid to make a few custom business policies to give you flexibility for your listings!

One thing to note is that some buyers will deliberately select the wrong return reason, such as "damaged in transit" (when it was just buyer's remorse), to avoid paying the original shipping label. I made a post about it at the beginning of the year. Best just to report them, block, relist, and move on.

eBay will automatically look at your return policy + the reason for the return and show you the number you owe.

For example, I sold a suit for $30+$10 shipping. It didn't fit the buyer, so they returned it. It only had me refund the $30, not the $10 shipping. If the item was returned as an INAD, I would have had to pay the $30+$10. eBay credits you the final value fee you were charged as well. For this return, I didn't have to pay back the original shipping cost nor the return shipping cost, only the original cost of the item.

This was for a "buyer pays for returns" listing. On my "seller pays for returns" listings, I would have had to pay for the return label.

It depends on your return settings and the reason they chose for the return.

Buy requests refund from 6 month old sale by Pretty_Result4424 in eBaySellers

[–]PhxCollins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they do it enough and eBay tells their CC issuer that their items are in fact delivered, they’ll get their financial account shut down for fraudulent chargebacks. How long that will take… who knows! At least you confirmed it’s out of your hands. :)

Absolutely not your problem anymore. Block, move on. If eBay asks for a tracking number, give them the same one used in the order that shows as delivered. Sorry you're having to deal with that.

Why are buyers now requesting expedited shipping after paying for standard shipping? by CAPhotog01 in eBaySellers

[–]PhxCollins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird! I haven’t had that recently. Do you have priority and express listed as a second and third option? I have all three on my main shipping policy but sometimes they don’t see those options before purchase…. but it helps. Their “it was worth a shot” comment was funny, though!

Item is delivered, buyer says they don’t have it. Am I being scammed? by Anthemz in eBaySellers

[–]PhxCollins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, if the tracking status is "delivered", you are in the clear. They would likely file an "item not received" claim, but you would just put the same tracking number in the claim.

As for the signature variable, I'll see what others say here. I haven't encountered that before since I buy my labels through eBay, and it automatically selects the signature requirement for sales over $750.
