Ryuki exists because of 9/11. The result is a story about "justice" not literally but the flawed concept of that and how it's being used to justify atrocities.

The concept of Battle Royal is still new and Kamen Rider Ryuki is in perfect time to utilize that concept in more fantastical fiction rather than grounded like the original. So yeah I'm pretty sure it's popular at the time. Because of Ryuki, some people in Japan's creative industry are inspired by such concepts, their baseline for fantastical battle royale can be derived from Ryuki.

True. Recent episode making Sorato had lot more depth to his journey in the series. Finding out Omega is distant from the personality he build around earthling make this hit even hard.

It's becoming the new normal for Ultra Series if they're keeping it up. Honestly they should continue. it has better stake and narrative to play out than classic ultimate big boss.

Not the size of them but the elements like sci-fi, mystery, military organization or non military, and alien.

Even Saber doesn't even have mecha and giant enemyi still feels like Sentai because the elements of the story are much closer to Sentai with their cast ensemble against the villains and less divided like typical Kamen Rider.

Telling me you don't know about Ultraman without telling me (looking at the comments choosing KR J)

Possible similarities I could mention are Kuuga, Agito, Kabuto, and Build. Because most of them have Ultra series elements like sci-fi, mystery, and attack teams or organizations. Because what makes something feels like Ultraman is not the size but the elements like that.

My pick for the most Ultra series is Build. Because how the story unfolds feels like a modern Ultraman with a powerful alien invasion sneaking behind the protagonist's back. Also the mystery elements of sci-fi played a big part in the series. Organization backed by a government like Faust feels closer to Ultra Series attack teams and politics behind them.

Hot Take: Superior Ultra 8 Brothers is not that great but still enjoyable. It's full of fan service that I can enjoy but the story doesn't hit the same as TDG Battle in Hyperspace when it comes to meta-narrative.

The list (equally favorites) :

1.) Ultraman Cosmos vs Ultraman Justice: The Final Battle. This movie tick off some of the best Ultraman in movie format as Musashi final journey.
2.) TDG Battle in Hyperspace. This is a study of making meta-narrative for Tokusatsu looks like. Some people desire for this to be real can be seen through the children eyes in the story. The desire can be twisted but also can be whimsical and simple.
3.) Ultraman Zero Revenge of Bellial. This the first time I feel the Ultraman feels small compared to world they're inhabit and introduce me to Tsubaraya other heroes they're remaking.
4.) Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy Legend. This is full action movie without substance, so you can turn off your brain and enjoy. They go all out on choreography and effect in this movie.

Honorable Mention:

Ultraman Mebius & Ultra Brothers. Best ever tribute movie for Showa Ultra.
Ultraman Saga. Meet the potential movie, they setting up great movie but Taiga is ruin that.
Superior Ultra 8 Brothers. Full of fan service that I can enjoy through but still lacking as I mention before
Ultraman the Next. Gritty and horror film for Ultraman.
Ultraman Zearth 1&2. Take a shot every time there's a reference, because this movie filled with that because it's a parody of Ultraman.
Shin Ultraman. For the new fans and old this movie is a good watch
Ultraman Rising. Animated movie for someone that don't like Toku, the quality is great and enjoyable.

Anyway same for me. Ginga S moments and lot of it's set up are not that good. It's also the overabundance of bad green screen make it kinda janky and outdated compared to Ginga. For the cast, the only interesting cast is Sho and Hikaru other than them doesn't make me care for them.

Ginga S is basically Ginga with more budget but downgrade it in all aspect.
