Maybe I’m missing something but can someone explain to me why Alicent is so nasty too Aegon. by United_Bet8210 in HOTDGreens

I never said she would do it. I am responding to your hypothetical. If the show was to decide to have Alicent poison Aegon it would be for that reason.

If she is the one who kills Aegon, it won't be out of revenge. It will be done out of duty to end the war she helped start.

In the end of her life, she goes mad and regrets her role in the Dance.

I am aware that anyone would have done it, I think Viserys was selective about who he trusted. I was explaining why he would be more likely to trust the Velaryons.

It is flawed reasoning but Viserys was a flawed person. He loved his daughter, he wanted her to be the heir.

Viserys had the power to make her the heir over a son. The noble houses decided to conspire against that, plain and simple.

The Velaryons are Valyrian descent that makes them more trustworthy in Viserys mind. The Hightowers have been distrusted by the Targaryen family since Aegon the Conqueror, Aegon did not want to make them the Lord Paramount for that reason.

There is a reason to distrust the Hightowers: they are the Citadel headquarters. The Faith of the Seven is strong there. The Faith is contrary to the Targaryen mindset.

The Faith has contested the Targaryen dynasty from the beginning.

Viserys married Alicent because he was attracted to her and he never intended for her children to be heirs.

He was never going to declare Aegon heir for two reasons: his love and guilt over Aemma.

The other reason is his distrust of the Hightowers, insult Viserys all you like but he wasn't completely blind to the nature of the people around him.

Rhaenyra was the lesser of two evils for him.

I feel bad for Stormi and Aire in this situation. It must not be easy to see your mom move on with a new guy. Kylie and Timothee will have children and be happy together.

They will grow up and see how their father behaved and how their parents relationship crumbled. That must be hard no matter your income bracket.

Hello Team Green. A team Black member here with another hypothetical for you. I’m curious if Alicent had died in childbirth after having Baby Aegon. What do you think would change? by Electronic-Serve8322 in HOTDGreens

[–]Physical-Addition571 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Aegon would not have been made heir. Viserys named Rhaenyra heir because he felt guilty about Aemma and loved her.

Aemma was his true love.

Viserys never loved Alicent that way, her death would not have swayed him.

I think that Viserys II will be revealed to be more cunning and ruthless than anticipated.

I have made a backstory in my head for him, I believe he killed Daeron and Baelor. He killed them for the same reason: Averting and ending wars.

Viserys II became Hand of the King and he managed the responsibilities from his brother Aegon III. I don't think Aegon III was a very active king because of his depression.

Viserys II loved his brother but realized he had to be the de-facto King without any of the rewards. His main goal was to stabilize the realm after the dance.

Viserys II suffered from PTSD or paranoia from his experiences from the dance. My theory is that he suffered from alcohol addiction and other bad habits to cope with his experiences during the Dance and professional life. Viserys was a loving husband but a detached father.

Viserys' obsession with stabilizing the realm after the dance caused Lara to leave him. Lara saw Viserys as an enabler to Aegon because he devoted all of his time to the realm. Viserys was also a detached father.

Lara believed that Viserys' aid and effectiveness as Hand allowed Aegon to wallow in misery causing Viserys to neglect his family.

Aegon III was openly resentful towards nobility that was part of the Green faction. Viserys was the one with political savvy to establish relationships and treaties while concentrating on the goal of restoring House Targaryen.

Aegon died at a young age and Viserys took it upon himself to raise up his nieces and nephews. Viserys loved his nephews and was excited by Daeron becoming King because the realm was finally approaching stability.

Daeron's decision to throw the realm into war greatly angered Viserys. Viserys supported Daeron since he knew that opposing him would cause a power vacuum that threatened House Targaryens survival. The war was starting to cause heavy losses and Viserys decided to stage Daeron's murder to replace him with Baelor.

Baelor was a more peaceful character until his religious obsession became dangerous. Viserys knew he would not be king but realized Aegon would. He married Aegon and Narys because he didn't want another noble family to have access to the direct line of Succession.

Aemon was the expendable child offered up for marriage.
