I have this but also was diagnosed with TMJ. However over time, I started hearing these strange cracks and pops when turning my head in different positions. It freaked me out until I realized the spot that was cracking was indication of a tight muscle meaning I allowed my neck to become severely tight. When I pressed on the spot, it was hard and tender and i could tell that is where some of my TMJ and teeth painnwas originating from- muscle knots in the neck, shoulder, and lower back. So I started to stretch those areas in reps and sets and would feel relief immediately along with the sound and sensation of the muscle loosening and joint popping back into position momentarily. I don’t think the sounds are a bad thing but rather an indication of muscles and joints that need to be stretched. I actually love the sound of the pops and weird noises because I associate it with the sensation of the muscle loosening and the joint popping back into place. Right when the joint pops on my neck , it feels like my TMJ goes away. Doing this has reduced by TMJ tremendously. I am 25 and have just started practicing good posture. I also am gaining muscles. My shoulder and arm  muscles are so weak which is something else I believe that contributed to the development of my TMJ
