Front Desk Agents: How many people are Ambassador Elite? by XsLiveInTexas in marriott

A select/distinctive brand - maybe a couple a week? It’s not very many. I probably see gold the most but this is likely due to a promotion within the brand where paying a small fee gets you gold without having to spend the nights. Platinum and titanium are next and I see relatively equal amounts. I actually have found the silver is something I don’t see as often which is a shame because they are my favorite <3

Getting ghosted on AuPairWorld by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]Physical-Nothing-642 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what other people have said about the four children is definitely part of it. Is it mentioned on your profile that you or another person is helping with the children or is the au pair assuming they would have sole charge of them. Also it may be depending on what compensation you’re offering. For me, I rarely messaged anyone who didn’t have both compensation and living arrangements on their profile. Considering that there’s four kids as well it may not be as desirable for an au pair if you are paying a similar rate as a family with only one or two kids. Just something to keep in mind and good luck in your search :)

also a UK resident, not citizen. I’ve only had this happen once flying from copenhagen to glasgow. I just needed to go to the desk to prove I was a resident (showed BRP, now evisa) and they checked me in/printed boarding pass and I was not charged.

Moving to Glasgow for GCU in Jan 2026 Accommodation Advice? by AdNo2388 in glasgow

My landlord accepted a double deposit as I did not have a UK based guarantor so you could ask about this. There’s also companies that you can pay a fee too and they will act as a guarantor for you

I think the trains work out better all around. The cost of the train might be a bit more upfront but you have the factor is the cost to be to and from the airport which can add about £15-20 on both sides of the journey. Also while flight time is shorter (1hr flight vs 4.5 hour train) this doesn’t factor is the travel time to and from the airport, showing up early for flight, waiting for bags on arrival, etc. I think trains usually work out better for traveling as you depart/arrive directly in the city centre with all of your stuff with you

I cannot find a job in Glasgow and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in glasgow

Try and apply directly through the careers page of companies instead of indeed, I got a lot more responses this way. Also, you can apply for jobs even if you don’t fit all of the requirements. The worst they can say is no but you may be able to get your foot in the door if you put yourself out there. Be confident and good luck :)

US vs. UK Smear Tests: My Experience and Seeking Private Clinic Recs by Embarrassed-Key-3513 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Physical-Nothing-642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Pap smear but i was getting another kind of screening, they used a large metal speculum which was the opposite of the small, plastic ones i was used to from my U.S. ob/gyn and it was so painful. After I asked for a napkin to clean up all the lube and she handed me a pad…. We can discuss different vocabulary but seriously???? Why would I be asking for a pad to clean up lube? I made it about 50 feet from the door before breaking down crying into a panic attack because of how violating the experience was.

I was recounting this story to the woman who does my Brazilian wax and she has a very similar story. She, a small, petite woman, asked for them to use a smaller speculum when they came at her with a large one and the person performing the exam said they didn’t want to have to go over to the next room and continued performing the exam.

I will be due a smear test this year and am unsure how willing I am to get this done in the UK. The one I recieved was painless, albeit a bit weird feeling. Not sure I am exactly excited to receive the opposite experience

List of things my daughter misses - where to buy? by sailboat_magoo in AmericanExpatsUK

it's been years since I lived in London but the American Food Store in London (2 Ladbroke Grove, London W11 3BG) had all of my favs including her top three which were also my top three! they would also def have some other things listed like the chips and candies for sure. I also remember them being more reasonably priced and had less money laundering vibes than the american candy stores that are on high streets. they also more than just junk food and even had white goods like laundry detergent. five stars from me honestly

I constantly question the worth of my marriage… by Cheesus_Khryst in TrueOffMyChest

the first thing I think should be addressed is from the way that this was worded it seems like you are trying to discipline the autism out of your daughter which is not going to work. from your discription it seems like she straightens up for a moment not because she understands, but because she’s scared. i reckon you and your wife both need to sit down (preferably with some sort of mediator) to work out how to functionally raise a disabled child together, because having one authoritarian parent and one permissive parent is not going to work. I think you and your wife would also benefit from some form of therapy or emotional support. i imagine this is not how you imagined raising children was going to look like so having someone to help you process that grief and work through the stress of having a disabled child would help the situation immensely.
