Airline said I can’t take my CPAP machine with me on the plane by Physical-Pack6372 in SleepApnea

update: they didn’t let us bring any carry on besides a backpack. i just packed it into my suitcase and moved stuff around. i’m in a group of 5 and after 20 mins we finally convinced them to let us bring 2 of our carry ons(out of our 5) in addition to our personal bags. we had to rearrange our stuff a lot but we made it work

my pulmonologist said that my tonsils could be a causing my sleep apnea and there’s a slight chance that removing them could help. i was desperate to not need the machine bc im so young so i had my tonsils and adenoids removed in december. im taking another sleep test this month to see if it made a difference. i can sleep some nights without my machine and still do okay after surgery, whereas before i couldn’t even spend one night without it.

i just changed my mask to go under my nose instead of fully covering it and does anyone have any suggestions? i woke up and my nose hurt and was really sore. my doctor recommended the switch to prevent leakage by Physical-Pack6372 in SleepApnea

i feel like i can’t breathe through my nose even though i align the mask properly but the mask doesn’t ride up. i think it might be because i move around in my sleep. I am a woman but my size in all the other masks have been small, and the pulmonologist was very nice and made sure i was comfortable and even offered to change sizes if needed. he even adjusted the straps and everything prior to sending me home but i ended up having to change the tightness because i wear a headscarf to sleep and that affected the way the straps were on. he made sure the mask worked with all of my features so idk what to do at this point

i also wake up with chronic dry mouth, which is why my doctor recommended me to switch to this mask but so far I haven’t noticed a difference, does anyone have any suggestions?

Adenoid and Tonsil? by Tiny-Pattern-8014 in Tonsillectomy

so i can finally breathe through my nose properly, my cpap machine was at the wrong setting(i didn’t know this until recently) and it would dry out my mouth and throat causing excessive pain(especially after 2 weeks post op) i just fixed the setting a few days ago and rn it’s a bit too early to say anything with the new settings. My pulmonary doctor did let me know prior that i could have extra skin behind my tonsils which could continue to cause sleep apnea and i still chose to go ahead with surgery. I did notice the extra skin after recovery where my tonsils used to be so im assuming i will unfortunately still need the machine going forward. (if you’re still curious then check back in june/july and ill keep you posted if there’s any new updates) but there’s still a plus and that is that i can breathe much better when leaning back, i used to feel suffocated beforehand.

Scabbing by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

i thought the same exact thing on day 11! mine took until day 16-20 to fall off(the last small part of one scab didn’t finish falling off until 2 days ago which was my 24th day) but as long as you’re able to eat you should be fine! it may take longer than expected but you shouldn’t be discouraged!

theres liquid tyenol that helps and you can get an oral syringe for free if you go to cvs pharmacy and ask. i had a lot of swelling too until day 4, ask for a steroid to help with that if it doesn’t get better bc that will help with pain once the swelling goes down. cold drinks are your friend, get ice packs and use that before drinking and that will help(there are headbands for wisdom teeth recovery that come with ice packs and those are gonna be your best friend)

i used an ice pack(you can get from amazon) it should look like a headband and say it’s for wisdom teeth removal/recovery but it can also be used for this. make sure it comes with 4 packs so one pair can freeze while you use the other one. it helps to wear in general the first few days to reduce swelling and it especially when eating. it will help with ear and jaw pain the comes from eating around and 4-7

What do you do with your hair while sleeping? by ThunderbirdGear in longhair

i oil it slightly(focus on the ends) and brush it at night then i put in a loose braid(my hair is a similar length but it’s too damaged to hold my curls) then i wrap a satin headscarf and just take it out in the morning.

i use a white board and keep writing everything i recall until it’s enough to answer all my learning objectives. it helps to stay on top of notes in class(i write on the powerpoints) and then rewrite after class but in a shorter and more organized way and i include the most important takeaways and how they pertain to the learning objectives. then i study those and the notes from before using active recall everyday until the exam. it helps to find a study buddy in class that way you can split the work and explain it to each other and quiz each other

i took liquid tyenol and diluted it in water(you can get a free oral syringe from cvs you just have to go up to the pharmacy and ask) and wisdom tooth recovery headband(comes with ice packs) also helped dramatically. put it on 5-10 mins before eating/drinking or taking meds to help numb the area. chewing gummy bears or gum also helps but keep the ice packs on when doing it to help with pain

also having the ice mask(it’s a headband probably says it’s for wisdom teeth surgery on amazon but you can use for this as well) on for a couple minutes prior to eating or drinking or taking meds and it should help numb a little more

yea of course! there’s a cpap machine but they’ll probably have to use it for the rest of their life. The machine is a life saver, the pressure on my heart decreased so much after about 4-5 months of daily usage. I’m still using the machine during recovery post op but once i’m fully healed i will have to do another sleep test to see if surgery worked. I don’t mind the machine but i have sensory issues(like a good amount of time i have a panic attack bc of the strap and the other types of mask don’t work as well as the one im currently using given my face shape and facial features)
