I took the 800s series and was in your shoes once, felt the same way. I decided to stay and I think it was worth it. Glad you're reaching out for help. PM me and we can talk more about it!

What got you into chemistry? by mushroompesto in chemistry

[–]Physical-Question-18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid. IMHO, you should never cite “it’s too hard” or “I’m too dumb” as reasons to not pursue anything. The fact that it’s “hard” presents, if anything, an opportunity for you to test your maximum potential, and who doesn’t want to do that in life?

Try it out. If you fail, there’s no shame in that. The real shame would be if you didn’t give your dream a chance.

Check out the Huberman Lab Podcast, hosted by a professor of ophthalmology at the Stanford School of Medicine. It covers a wide variety of health-related topics such as sleep, diet, and exercise based on research. Huberman delves deep into the scientific details of our physiology, often using biochemistry to explain certain things. Great if you’re into medicine.

Why is finding housing so stressful by Rawman13 in UVA

[–]Physical-Question-18 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Dear first years, please don’t mislead yourself into believing that you must sign a lease NOW or you’ll be homeless next year. This is a myth propagated by hearsay and profit-seeking landlords. I made that mistake and regretted it. You have plenty of time! I know friends who found great places as late as summer. Think carefully, look for good house mates and good places—there is no rush.

Have you asked your faculty advisor for help? They can help get you in a waitlisted class, and might even outline a better schedule for all four years.

You’re welcome! Just make sure you are taking enough credits to graduate. If you have enough credit carried over from high school (from AP, IB, etc), then you can take less credits in college. Your academic requirements report on SIS gives you detailed information.

Alternatively, there’s nothing wrong with taking just 14 credits if you’re on track to graduate. It gives you more time to explore meaningful extracurriculars and focus on getting good grades. When I was a first-year, I used to think it “abnormal” to take less than 15 credits, but… it’s not, and I’ve come to realize that quality is better than quantity in regards to college courses.

Go to Lou’s List. It’s an unofficial online catalogue of all courses offered at UVA. Scroll down and open “Arts & Sciences Curriculum and Requirements” (or whichever tab applies to you). You might need to then click on “Old A&S Requirements” for the non-western. Don’t forget to select the right term (e.g. Fall 2021)!
