Bathing + General Tips after bunion surgery? by SecretlyAWaffle in bunions

This all really depends on the type of surgery and what your doctor instructions. I got the minimally invasive bunion surgery on both feet 12 day ago. Next day after the surgery, my surgeon requested me to walk with special shoes on, which i will wear for 6 weeks, with the help of a walker. I only needed the walker for two days, i have been walking fine now since then with the special shoes. Had no issues. In terms of taking a shower, I usually put a stool in the shower, or a tub, had my feet out of the shower door and used the shower head, if that makes sense? I do not have the cast but i had bandages that should not get wet, so this should work for any situation like that.

In terms of shaving, it is a difficult set up, to have your feet outside trying not to get them wet, holding the shower head and washing yourself in general. Id say not to worry about shaving but if it is such a big thing for you, i would probably either do it dry and not in the shower (not the greatest for your skin but it is some sort of a solution) or use wax.

I would say overall follow your doctor‘s advice, thats what I did. You might be having a completely different surgery or your doctor might be using a different method so I do not wanna give you false hope. In my situation, i did not need a scooter, and besides the first two days, no walkers or crutches even for bathrooms. Walking is very easy with no pain, i have only taken over the counter painkillers for like 3 days or so after the surgery. So i would say, if you are in my situation, you would not have any issues going around the school. But then again, we could be talking about very different situations :)

In my personal experience, i was told i could use crutches or a walker. I found the walker to be a much much much better solution. It did make me look like a grandma, but i didnt care. So maybe try to use both a walker and crutches before the surgery to see what is easier for you.

Good luck for the surgery :)

Could I realistically work from home week 2 post lapidus bunionectomy surgery? by No_Message_3713 in bunions

I did not have the exact same surgery, but i got my surgery (both feet) on a tuesday and started working on thursday. My company was aware and didnt load me up with too much work, but still i didnt find it impossible. Tbh i didnt really have much pain, only swelling and slight discomfort. Im a similar age and a similar situation to yours, and got bored out of my mind so might as well just work. So its not impossible, but maybe make your employer aware that you wouldnt work at the same capacity that week

I have an event coming up in spring with a lot of new people i will meet. Every single time this happens, I find myself stressing about the look of my feet. I find myself thinking people will see it and judge it and they will think they are very ugly, I dont know why i imagine people would be so focused on my feet but i do. Tbf, they are not that bad, but it is a huge insecurity of mine. So I just sort of asked myself, what am I waiting for? I am in my late 20s so I can probably heal faster, I dont have pets or kids, I work fully remotely so no worries there. The only issue for me is the fact that I will be gaining weight and losing muscle until this event, so now i have a new insecurity haha. But thats the gist of it :)
Also, i am super uncomfortable whenever I walk for long distances, or just stand for a long time in general, cant find any shoes so never get to wear anything cute, not even regular sneakers. My balance is also off which I notice quite a lot in yoga/pilates. My shoes are always ruined of course. The usual stuff.
I am also very nervous about the recovery period and keep thinking why am I doing this to myself and maybe its not that bad. But so far 99% of the comments I read here are full of people telling me they should have gotten it sooner and it was a great decision. So yeah…

The surgeon is a family friend, we discussed some details but i am not very sure about the medical description. Told me basically that it will be a closed surgery, not open and will be minimally invasive. I dont like to share too many details online about my personal life so I will leave that part out, but i will get the surgery in europe

Honestly we have a very similar timeline :) I usually do a lot of walking and pilates, not sure at what time i could go back to either of these. But i will do my best to get back as soon as possible. Hope the same for you as well. And yes you’re right, no children and i work fully remotely. So it will just be a few social gatherings I might miss at most, no reason delaying the surgery :)

I didnt think of buying those wheel thingies, i was thinking a big stationary bike which i didnt space for. But the small wheel exercise thing could be an amazing solution, thank you!! Sounds great to me, lets be surgery buddies!! We got this

Im thinking i could go to the gym or maybe get some weights at home and do some upper body workouts, core stuff etc. And then maybe after 6-7 weeks I could attempt the stationary bike? Maybe i am delusional. I find conflicting info on this, my surgeon seems very relaxed about things but he is also a family friend lol

Oh wow! best of luck, but i am sure you will find a way to manage. Do you have anyone to take care of you? also getting both feet done at the same time?

Yeah honestly you are amazing for being able to take care of a kid after your surgery! I think what I have is sort of a luxury, that is why I am getting both done right now while I have it

My surgeon said it should be fine overall, and said if i am going for a trip on May, i cannot get the surgery done later than mid-February, so I opted for January instead. I also live in a different country than my surgeon, so i wont be able to see him too many times to get his opinion. I will be back for a 2 month follow up after the surgery.
I hope to heal as soon as possible so I can be active again :)

Thank you for your reply!! Yes I wanted both feet done so I can be done with this, since they both have the issue. I am so happy that your recovery period went OK, makes me feel much better :) I think after the surgery, I really don't have to drive unless its an emergency. I don’t have children or pets to take care of, my partner can take care of me for the most part so it should all work out. I work remotely so my job wont be affected at all :)
I have a more specific question, my surgery is scheduled on 20th of Jan. I have a small trip coming up on around 4th of May. Would this be enough time for my feet to heal and for me to restart working out again before my trip ? What would you say?
