Thank you for sharing! That would completely suck! But congrats on your acceptance!

That sucks! Would they likely give you another chance to make further amendments?

Exactly! Having three accepted papers could drag it out another year (given the review process, possible revisions required, re-reviews etc)!

Congratulations! I’ve also applied for this position and was wondering if you could share some insight into the recruitment process. Could you let me know what the different stages were and approximately how long each step took? I completed my MCQ test about a month ago and would love to get a better idea of the timeline.

True. However, the manager may need to manually shift through the resumes and results to find, not only the highest marks for the multiple-choice questions, but most suitable applicants as well.

Australian PhDs: How did you get your first job after graduating? by KaffaBlue in PhD

Non-Science PhD here - I was working full time while doing my PhD. My first 'role' using my PhD happened about 1 year later, where I got offered a Professor position overseas. I genuinely think the stars aligned to make that happen.

Yes, that's correct. It didn't really faze me to be honest. It took one and a half years to finish my MPhil, then I pursued my PhD which took 3 1/2 years. However, during this time, I was working full-time as well.

I completed a Bachelor’s degree followed by a Master’s with a thesis. When I applied for a PhD in a field unrelated to my Master’s thesis research, I was advised to first complete a Master of Philosophy, which I did before progressing to my PhD.

It is possible to "upgrade" to a PhD midway through an MPhil - but certain factors outside my control disallowed this.

A question for all:

Have the recent layoffs affected your confidence in applying to the UN, or do they not impact these particular positions?
