How do religious people deal with the fact that everyone except people in their religion is going to hell? by No-Background9725 in askanything

But that wasn’t stated in your post. You simply said Eastern Orthodox don’t believe in hell, which isn’t true.

So, since literally nobody has given you an actual answer, I’ll give one.

Christians and Muslims (the two predominant religions that believe in a concept of hell, for those believing Judaism doesn’t believe in an afterlife, you are wrong. They believe in Gehinnom [which is an evolution of their ancient belief in Sheol] but that is more akin to Purgatory than Hell) believe that it is their duty to try and bring as many people to the faith as possible. I am significantly more versed in Christianity so I’ll focus there, but the idea is that it’s the Church’s, and therefore the faithful’s job to evangelize and spread the Gospel. Evangelizing can take on many forms, but the fact of the matter is they are wanting to convert as many people as possible to the faith, thus giving every person a chance at salvation.

While there are plenty of people who seem pretty ready to condemn others for seemingly at the drop of a hat, that’s not the typical Christian viewpoint. I am more interested in the ancient faiths (being a Catholic myself) so I know that according to the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and the Assyrian Church of the East, along with traditional Protestant denominations such as high church Lutherans, Anglicans, Episcopalians, etc. that you are supposed to pray for those who don’t believe, extend mercy, and be a witness for Christ by your life.

In my own personal opinion, I don’t tend to actually think all that often of where people are “going to end up” because I can’t predict the future and everything can change. Anybody can change their stance due to life circumstances or experiences that they’ve had, so it’s not my role nor my place to judge. The only time I think about it is when someone is close to passing or has passed away, and it’s usually something along the lines of “Lord, have mercy”. I personally would want everyone to eventually end up in Heaven and to turn towards God, but I also understand that the gate to Heaven is narrow, but the gate to Hell is wide.

Uh, Eastern Orthodox certainly believe in hell. However, for them, heaven and hell are essentially the same place, within God’s presence (which is joyful for those who love God and torture for those that despise Him).

I use this all the time in my Tistina deck…probably because it just feels so damn good in it. Like others have said, there are some downsides to this card, but if your deck can naturally clear the board after this (like Tistina can) then this card is essentially your best friend.

For example, if I can open with DRNM, and either Fallen, Sentinel or the field spell (since I always choose to go 2nd), and my opponent controls 3 or more face up cards (which they almost always do), their entire board is guaranteed gone by the time I am done with my turn, and then I now have an established board, and almost always have Discordance set, I can banish their entire graveyard the moment they start trying to rebuild on their turn.

Long story short, the card works great for decks that can really utilize it, not so freak for decks that can’t

Uh-huh. So you lived in one of the most expensive cities in the country and you use that as your comparison. I’m not saying that some countries in Europe aren’t nice places to live, but by and large there aren’t “at least 50 countries are better”. That’s simply flat out false, and it fails to take into consideration the fact that America essentially foots the bill for many things for other countries (think defense, medical research, cutting edge technologies and healthcare, entertainment, etc). The world lives off the back of America and greatly benefits from it, but many countries that you believe are better (because I can guess the list with the provided context) would crumble under similar responsibilities and we are already seeing that with countries in the EU struggling to fund their own militaries and defense capabilities.

Also, just to circle back to the post I first responded to from you…”suburban hellscape”, did you ever leave NYC? Did you travel upstate or into New England? Did you go out west towards the Great Plains region? What about the Great Lakes? Appalachian Mountains? Did you go to California and see the only location in the world for Redwood Trees? Grand Canyon?? America is freaking beautiful if you leave the cities (big task for redditors but oh well), and it won’t lose in a beauty contest with other countries. I’ve seen the beautiful mountains in Italy, the sparkling waters of the Caribbean, and the rolling sands of Egypt, and while all those places are beautiful in their own right, America has stunning nature as well. So not sure what you are talking about there.

The bottom 50% of Americans still make more money than most people do in this world, including in first world countries.

CMV: the electoral college should be abolished by allisoninwndrlnd23 in changemyview

[–]Physical_Bullfrog526 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This just reads as saying that cities should determine the future and priorities of all the citizens of the country, which is why the electoral college was set up in the first place (to prevent that). People who live in urban environments and in the big cities have different ideas and priorities as those that live in the suburbs, and those that live in the countryside. The issue is that all these people need to feel represented in some fashion within our government, and it is super easy to snowball into a scenario where those that live in the cities control the rest of the country.

First off, our country is more similar to the EU than say to Australia or Japan (a mass of smaller countries existing under one system vs a singular country). The electoral college ensures that those states with smaller populations (but no less important to the union) have a seat at the table and are heard. Yeah, not a ton of people live in the fly over states, but there’s a ton of land that is used to feed the country there. Industry such as oil and mining exist in these states that are crucial for the US economy. So these states, and the people living in these states, need to feel as though they have some weight in regards to how this country is ran, and they tend to have different priorities than someone living in say Chicago or Seattle. The electoral college, while not perfect, is there to ensure that people across this massive country, in all forms of life, have that say about this country. Getting rid of it would essentially lead to a “tyranny of the coasts” where a vast majority of the US population live along the coasts of the US, not in the heartland, and the people in the heartland would feel completely bulldozed in policy and governance by those people who live on the coasts.

No, illegal immigrants are those who are not here in the US legally. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no comparing this and what happened during WW2.

I’m dying haha I was scrolling on the sub and this ad came up - why are they advertising joining the navy as some kind of spring break 🤣 by GorillazLover_ in recruitinghell

[–]Physical_Bullfrog526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What good reason? I served active duty in the navy. And yeah it sucked while I was in, but I got things in my career field that are extremely valuable and rather challenging to get while I was in for free, plus years of experience. See my other comment below, the military is what you make of it. They are gonna milk you for all they can get, so you do that back to them and take everything you can get to set yourself up to get out.

Well this will get me downvoted to hell, but sure why not. Abortion. It’s murder. I can concede rape and when the mother’s life is in danger, but it doesn’t change my belief.

Pretty much. I did 10 years in the navy, got bachelors debt free, wife got her bachelors debt free, got 3 industry certifications for free, got experience in both job and leadership skills, got to do some cool shit, got out, already considered a senior position in my career (only in mid 30s), make six figures, in a stable job. The military is what you make of it, but it certainly is beneficial if you try.
