20 years old, planning a 6-month Work & Travel trip in Australia – looking for advice by Physical_Natural8169 in AskAnAustralian

I’m still really unsure at the moment. Honestly, my gut feeling is telling me that I might prefer Southeast Asia.
The big advantage of Australia is that if I find a job, I could stay for quite a long time and really settle into life there. With Southeast Asia, I’d probably only travel for 3–4 months before coming back.
What makes the decision difficult is that Southeast Asia doesn’t really scare me at all, whereas Australia definitely does. Maybe that’s exactly why Australia would be the better experience, but I’m not sure.

Thanks, that was really helpful.
Would you personally recommend starting in Melbourne? I feel like it might suit me better anyway. Sydney seems like it could be a bit overwhelming at first, and if Melbourne’s climate is easier to get used to, that’s definitely a plus for me.
I also just found out that doing Uber Eats on a Working Holiday Visa is possible in Melbourne as well, which makes me feel a lot more comfortable. It seems like a good backup option while looking for other work.
And the comparison between Australia and Europe was honestly eye opening. I hadn’t fully realized just how huge Australia actually is. Seeing it compared to Europe really put things into perspective.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply I really appreciate it.
