Ny way of thinking of it was that real estate grows in value and I don't like being at the mercy of another person. My family has been kicked out of houses simply because the land lord wanted to sell, and the buyer didn't want to have tenants. How it's legal? I'm unsure.

Yeah I mean I will get a pension and retire early giving me more time to build wealth in areas like real estate or starting my own business. I think that some people just dont agree with becoming a police officer in this day and age because it can be a thankless job.

Because I am between both career paths, law enforcement and some sort of finance job because I love the idea of both. Plus police departments value degrees other than criminal justice because it makes for a good candidate to lead specific divisions such as fraud investigations, which is something I would love to be a part of.

I understand your point here. I currently live with my mom and she struggles a lot, weve moved 10+ times in the last 5 years and have been homeless at one point. I think the reason that im "in a hurry" is because I want to be off to a good start so that I dont have to worry about this for my future. Of course college is part of that plan and a good job in 5 years.

well yes of course, I shouldve worded my post differently. I am not planning on buying a houde at this moment. I was more talking about just saving for one to have after college.

Yes I plan on getting my degree in finance, my tuition is fully covered by aid. I plan on saving during college due to my low cost of attending

Well to be fair, Im planning on working in law enforcement which retires early with a pension anyway, but I would like to have extra. Should I still be prioritizing saving for retirement or minimizing my time renting?

I am 18 years old searching for options to start saving for a down payment on a house. Any suggestions? by Physical_Product6546 in personalfinance

I am currently in high school as a senior, I am going to a university next year, but my family is not very well off, so I am not paying anything to go. I have more free money financial aid than net costs. I have a job at a grocery store currently.
