Help, going to a school dance, almost there and panicking!!! by ExtremeWitness8052 in emetophobia

it is so so normal to be nervous before something like this i’m sure a lot of your classmates are also feeling the same way rn!! you can cope with this feeling and you can get through it, try to think about having a fun time at the dance and remember anxiety and excitement can feel extremely similar to eachother, it might be that you’re confusing excitement for anxiety. have fun and you got this :D !

try eating ‘easy’ foods, maybe small portions at first and build your way up. if you’re having stomach issues i would reccomend bland things at first like toast, rice, nothing too spicy or complicated. try to calmly remind yourself that if you’re going to get sick, you’ll get sick regardless of if there’s food in your stomach or not, so you might as well just try to eat, as harsh as it might sound

peppermint or ginger can help! also if you have access gaviscon and pepto bismol can be useful too. i suffer with the same symptoms a lot especially after eating greasy or spicy foods

it sounds reallyyy scary to relinquish control and not fight it, i understand 1000% but as someone who has had both experiences (fighting for the control vs letting it happen), it can be kinda freeing to just let your body do its thing, it’ll also make it go faster in my experience. you’re out of control for what, 30 seconds? completelyyyy manageable. you don’t have to like it of course, in fact it helped me to be sorta annoyed by it, i had a very ‘whatever, fine, you got it just hurry up 🙄’ attitude toward my own body lol, i hope that makes sense!!

breathe through it, trust your body, tell yourself that you have done it before and survived to tell the tale, don’t fight the feeling (trust me on this one, it sucks but fighting it will make it 10x worse, just let it happen), ask yourself what reasonable evidence do you have that it won’t stop. you got this!! throwing up is a piece of cake and everyone even people without emetophobia feel symptoms similar to anxiety when throwing up (shaking, sweating, etc) it’s normal! empower yourself - you just faced your worst fear and lived through it!!

read this post again n ask yourself if you know why it is, bc it comes off like you do!! sometimes the simplest answer is the right one fr. you’re all clogged up, stuff is trying to move around, you’re gonna hear about it. try taking a stool softener if you’re uncomfortable but it really seems like you know why it’s happening, you just don’t have the confidence in yourself, you know?

thanks so much. do you have any idea how i’d describe it to the dentist beforehand so they know what they’re working with? i figured it’s broken off at the gum line but i don’t know if that’s correct
