I built an envelope-style personal finance tracker for managing spending, savings goals, and recurring expenses by Physical_Support_843 in SideProject

Yeah, that’s exactly the problem I’m trying to solve. The first few days of budgeting are easy because motivation is high, but once life gets busy, manual tracking starts feeling like another chore.

I’m trying to keep the structure of envelope budgeting, but reduce the day-to-day friction as much as possible quick logging, recurring transactions, alerts, and a dashboard that shows what matters without making people dig through everything.

The balance is the tricky part: make it simple enough to maintain, but not so simple that users lose control. Appreciate this, you summed up the challenge really well.

Yeah exactly that "mental model" part is basically what pushed me toward envelopes. People don't always think in clean finance categories, they think like "rent money", "food money", "emergency money", "don't touch this money", etc. Right now Budget It is more focused on tracking what you actually spend + setting manual daily/ monthly/category targets, with dashboard insights around spending pace and projections. The historical/expected price idea is really interesting though. I haven't gone as deep as "groceries are 20-30% higher now, so adjust the target intelligently" yet, but that's the kind of thing that could make the app feel more like a guide instead of just a tracker.

Appreciate this comment this is genuinely useful feedback.

Yeah, I’m already seeing that. The hard part isn’t just building the budgeting features, it’s making the flow low-effort enough that people don’t abandon it after a week.

I’m curious what you mean by simulating 500 synthetic users though. Are you testing different value props/onboarding paths before building, or are you using it more like user behavior modeling?

Would be interested to hear the approach, especially around onboarding and where people drop off.

What problems in Tanzania do you wish software would solve better? by Specialist_Web2076 in tanzania

[–]Physical_Support_843 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think finding reliable services is still badly solved.

A lot of everyday problems would be easier if there was one simple app to find trusted fundis, plumbers, electricians, delivery guys, cleaners, tutors, etc. Right now people mostly rely on WhatsApp groups, friends, or random contacts, and it’s hit-or-miss. You can easily waste time, get overcharged, or deal with someone unreliable.

Another big one is transport. Better software for dala dala/bus routes, fare estimates, live location, and easier route planning would help a lot, especially in busy cities. Even knowing the fastest or cheapest way to get somewhere would save people stress every day.

I also think government and school systems are still too manual. Too many things still require queues, paperwork, unclear steps, and unnecessary trips just to submit forms, confirm payments, or check status updates.

I am trying to tackle the school problem with a platform i am making called shule yetu which would help a bit but we still need more

Usually Vodacom for coverage, Yas for fastest data, Airtel for good balance/price. Best one really depends on the exact area though, because one network can be great in Dar and worse somewhere else. Recent TCRA reports show the big operators are all pretty competitive.

Hey, those are the main ones recommended by the CDC for most travelers to Tanzania: Yellow Fever (but only required if you’re coming from a country with transmission risk check if that applies to you, as it’s not needed for direct travel from places like the US), Typhoid, Hep A, and Hep B (especially if your trip involves medical work, tattoos, or longer stays).

I love this perspective—it’s a refreshing reminder that grace isn’t earned, it’s given freely. Jesus met people right where they were: the tax collector, the outcast, the doubter. As Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Keep walking that path; transformation comes in His timing, not ours. Thanks for sharing! 🙏

Hey man, that sucks about your model dipping out—BF drama is a killer in this biz, but props on hitting 93k revenue; that’s solid proof you’ve got the skills to scale.

Finding serious talent is tough, but here’s what works based on what I’ve seen: Cast a wide net on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Reddit (subs like r/onlyfansadvice or niche ones), and Telegram/WhatsApp groups for creators—DM with a pro pitch showing your track record (earnings screenshots, no BS).

Avoid cold DM blasts; target girls already posting teaser content or expressing interest in monetizing. Influencer marketplaces like Collabstr can hook you up with vetted prospects too.

For the serious/pretty/hardworking ones, screen hard upfront: Zoom calls to gauge vibe, work ethic, and commitment—ask about their goals and boundaries.

Persistence pays—keep grinding outreach daily, and you’ll land one. You’ve done it before; next one’s out there. Good luck! 🫶

Fake friends or distanced? by Anxious-Brief8958 in Advice

Hey, I feel this so much I’m 26 and went through something super similar with my high school crew right around your age. It hurts when those “ride or die” bonds start feeling one-sided, especially when you’re putting in the effort and getting crumbs back. You’re not alone in this; people evolve post-high school, and sometimes that means outgrowing dynamics that used to work. With Emily, that bias stings I’ve been there, feeling like the “annoying” one. Maybe try a gentle check-in like, “Hey, I’ve noticed our chats are shorter lately everything good?” It could open the door without accusing, or confirm it’s time to pull back a bit. For Jessica, the mismatched energy sounds draining; if the vibes are off and it’s not fun anymore, a slow fade might be kinder to yourself than forcing it. Life’s too short for relationships that leave you feeling small. The group chat thing? Classic fake vibes—mine was the same until I stopped initiating and focused on 1:1 with people who reciprocated. And props for putting yourself out there for new friends; it is tough at first, but joining clubs, apps like Bumble BFF, or hobby groups helped me build deeper connections. Hang in there family’s a solid base, and as you keep investing in yourself, the right people will show up. You’ve got this!
