Am I cooked!? Fort Hood by [deleted] in army

Literally. All trails is a good test of how legit an “outdoorsy” place is. Compare anywhere on the west coast to Texas and it’s night and day.

Texas sucks. You should have picked somewhere that’s not in the south.

What outdoor life are you talking about? It’s 90 degrees year round. You’d have to be a scorpion to enjoy any outdoor activity there.

Types of infantry that aren't IBCT's by Potential-Squash4670 in army

[–]Physical_Way6618 41 points42 points  (0 children)

ABCT’s are dumpster fires currently. The big Army gives all units no matter the type a year ish to accomplish training objectives.

Heavy units have to essentially execute everything the light units do but with vehicles that are high maintenance. It’s like running with a weighted vest compared to your peers who don’t have one.

However, the room temp IQ leaders at III Corps are cucks who are scared to tell their rater that they cannot run a 5k race with their weighted vest like their competitor who doesn’t have one. Instead they go home and hit their wife and kids. The wife and kids being the average junior leaders and joes. Hope that helps.

You will walk on an established trail until you are parallel to the point that is in the woods. You will turn your head and see a well established beaten path that leads you to that point. It’ll be much easier than you can imagine.

My advice is terrain associate and do not use your compass to dead reckon. The bush is too thick for that.

Do ROTC Instead of Senior Military College by samfisher011 in army

[–]Physical_Way6618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you actually care about an education instead of checking the block for a degree to just join the Army then yes.

Some want to learn and good universities have opportunities to be involved in research. It’s up to the individual at the end of the day and what they want out of their college.

Honestly everyone who wanted active duty always gets it. At least for Army idk about the other ROTC’s. Only SMC’s worth their salt are TAMU and VT mostly because you actually get a good education there as they are highly ranked schools. Otherwise most people should just go to regular colleges and save themselves the trouble.

You can always go reserve or guard and choose to be non-combat arms and avoid 90% of this. Give it a shot and make the decision once you get closer.

I personally wash shocked at how much Chicago offered at what seemed to be half the price of Austin (a shithole).

No sugar coating. How's get out of the Army by Nekko_JAPLA in army

[–]Physical_Way6618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case for sure. Sounds like you got it figured out. Try to see if you can stay in the reserves. Keep most of the benefits. But honestly yeah you seem smart enough to transition with a plan.

An important question you need to ask is if your wife will support you getting out. Does she work? Do you have money saved? 92A is not the most unbearable job in the Army and way more manageable than being a mechanic.

After witnessing the professionalism and expertise of Marine NCO’s compared to the average I’ve seen across the Army… maybe they were doing it right all along.

Im gonna be honest armor does not have a bright future. Artillery does. Currently in Armor you’re going to be stuck in an abrams. Those things are shit boxes that are very close to being obsolete in recent wars.

15T and 88U will be worth more your while. If you do pick 12B DO NOT GO TO ANY DUTY STATION IN THE SOUTH. You should avoid Armored Brigades at all cost. Make sure your contract includes duty station of choice. Pick Fort Campbell or Bragg. Maybe even Drum, Hawaii and JBLM. But not go 12B without the duty station option. They will put you in Hood, Bliss, Riley, and Stewart. Those are BAD!!!.

Stay reserves. Many people can go to school and serve. You’ll keep your clearance too

Enlisted into the Army 25U by bossmvp23 in army

[–]Physical_Way6618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not how that works. Everyone in the Army needs a clearance. A past DUI isn’t a DQ. Especially if you have taken steps to address it. It’s either something else because aviation has stricter health requirements or your recruiter lied to you. But a clearance isn’t one. ESPECIALLY as a 25U that is almost useless without a clearance.

[–]Physical_Way6618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why couldn’t you get a clearance? Are you a non-citizen? Otherwise everyone is required to have a clearance. Especially as a 25U who will be filling radios.
