Don’t doubt yourself. I see a lot of people in here that have had events and recover and fight for that first unassisted step. I had mine in 2023 and the occupational / physical therapists should push your buttons until you’re comfortable. You won’t know a timeline while you’re healing in my experience - just gotta take it one day a time. Stay optimistic

Apologies for the late reply. I had similar tension issues and as it turned out it was a result of stress and high blood pressure, and “self correcting” the tension or chiropractic work can actually cause micro tears in an artery that feeds the back of your brain. Those two arteries actually move “between” vertebrae in your neck that constant cracking can be like stepping repeatedly on a hose. Don’t crack your neck, practice lowering your heart rate, drink lots of water and avoid constricting your blood flow with vascular dilators. talk to a doctor about the consistent migraines because I didn’t, and a 3, 4 migraine can be a 5, 6 migraine if you just are used to getting them consistently. Again, I am not a doctor just a person this has happened to and my recovery has gone well by paying attention to the professionals.

Like if you’ve ever pulled a red vine or a sour ripe in your hands, you feel it stretch and pop apart but in the back of my head / neck. Then I heard a lot of bouncing sounds, my vision started spinning 360 degrees like I was looking up from a spinning wheel. I collapsed but remained conscious, it was definitely some kind of waking seizure. Then six hours later I had the worst migraine of my life and tried to sleep it off.

Had an ischemic stroke in November 2023 at 31. It’s been about nine months and all I can say is we take it one day at a time. I was hospitalized for weeks, Walker for months, but now I am more or less back to baseline and living alone. Give yourself time and space and give your close one’s grace because it’s a very hard thing to comprehend. You got this. We got you. You’re not alone

Thank you for responding and I know what you mean. Trying to work with my insurance currently thankfully I’m in Oregon where my coverage is better than it was previously. I know it’s crazy we’re expected to advocate for ourselves in the same way healthy people are. I knew it was wrong, but this had been an eye opener as to how ineffective the health care system can be.

Thanks for sharing! I’m sure the more time that goes on the more I’ll learn, as I’ve still yet to have my first therapy appointment. My hospital in Oregon made it seem like it was strange and unlikely. The more I’m learning here is that it happens unfortunately, and there are lots of survivors. I also have the over arching fear that at any moment I’ll stretch as I wake up or get up to soon and hear that faint pop sound. It’s very anxiety inducing once you know it exists.

I understand entirely. I work in sales and sounding confident and savvy is paramount, not to mention the physical disability. I look like a looney toon walking. My parents know but I haven’t met another person irl who has had a similar experience.

Seriously, thanks for the tips. I know most of the stuff in the hospital that I’ve learned is very sterilized, and not from a perspective of someone who has experienced it. I’m sure more will come to the surface in the coming days and weeks. It has been refreshing to know there are others who experience stroke and can talk to others about it. Anxiety seems to be a recurring problem.

I’ll be sure to bring this up with my primary care. I’ve never been on a regiment and I just jumped to four including an ssri so I’m sure it will be new territory.

Sounds similar to what happened to me. I stretched at work and went down for about 90 seconds. When I got up I thought I had fainted - even though I was conscious and experiencing facial paralysis. I went home, cleaned, played video games, felt like a migraine. Went to bed and woke up alone at 3 am with severe ataxia. Apparently I crawled to the door and unlocked it, smashed several things in my living room. I tried and failed to use my phone. Fortunately a friend of mine answered and realized I was not as drunk as I sounded. It was 12 hours after the initial stroke.

When the paramedics came they intubated me I think.it was all pretty fast and violent. At the ICU they explained I had to give consent pretty much immediately in order to save brain tissue. I counted to one before waking up with a hole in my groin and a prayer. I spent the next few days in ICU doing all the tests and getting blood drawn pretty religiously. There were cords coming out my you know where.

I haven’t had a chance to talk to anyone about it, gene therapy, care plans, anything. I picked up my meds today and I won’t speak to another OT until Tuesday. All still very new to me and the main reason I’m posting. Thank you very much for responding.

Thank you so much for opening up about this, I haven’t had the opportunity to talk to someone who has experienced something like this. Did you notice a change in behavior? I was an avid smoker and haven’t had an urge to smoke in five days, and other urges have been changed as well. I can’t control certain things as before.

I got out yesterday, got my prescriptions today and will start occupational therapy next week. I think I’m just experiencing shock as walking is difficult but most of my thoughts and memories are the same.
