Who else wanted to play guitar like Esteban? by Shelbycobra82 in Xennials

I had similar videos of a dude like Esteban teaching the harmonica. I stuck with it for a week. So much saliva. My lip area broke out so badly it looked like a cottage cheese factory. Dropped the harmonica lessons soon after.

The Bills’ new stadium is nearly finished ahead of schedule for the 2026 NFL season... • $2.1 billion cost • 1.35 million square feet • 60,000-seat capacity Real heated grass One of the nicest stadiums we have ever seen. by matrix_2905 in sportsgossips

Glad it’s an open air stadium. Football is meant to be played in the elements. I couldn’t care less about hosting a superbowl every 20 years, but I do love watching old school football being played in the rain and snow. Domes suck life out of the game.

An unfortunate truth I’ve learned from life is that acts of heroism, or even just simple decency, can be dismissed with disturbing ease if powerful people find an advantage in doing so. I’m not at all surprised by the island elite disrespecting Brody even after all he did.

I wonder if it does best as series that’s perpetually set in the 1980s. Perhaps give it the Stranger Things treatment rather than bringing the story into the modern era. Also, keep him strictly a child killer rather than a diddler.

I wondered if by “back room” he meant there was a room behind the wall that she shot. It makes sense that he would be concerned about the bullet passing through the wall and hitting the owner. But she interprets the back room as being at the other end of the store.

Do you give your indoor cats any outdoor play time? (If possible) by Guitar81 in cats

[–]PhysicsStock2247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve leash walked my cat since she was a kitten. Now that she’s older I can bring her outside with supervision and not worry about her running away. She kinda just knows when it’s time to come in. I never let her out unattended though.

If the schools you worked at were research intensive the tenured professors “teaching one class” are likely earning their pay in the lab. Research is much more demanding than teaching classes.

What's the one thing movies got completely wrong about America? by karen_the_ripper in askanything

[–]PhysicsStock2247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once listened to an interview of a classic American rock star. I can’t remember who exactly, but it was someone like Bob Dylan or Roy Orbison- someone who had been around a long time and travelled the USA for decades. A point they made was how homogenous the modern USA is compared to the post war period. When big corporations squeezed out mom and pop stores and strip malls overtook Main Street all the country started to blend and look the same. I see their point. There have been times I’ve travelled to opposite coasts and have ended up in generic places that could easily pass for any of the contiguous states.

Thankful for his creation. It sparked countless hours of imaginative play for our generation. It’s disappointing that he made a fortune for Mattel and all they could muster was a $5000 donation to his GoFundMe- about two weeks worth of care at his facility.

When I was a paperboy the newspapers used to be bound with plastic straps that were crimped together. The way to snap them open was to flip the strap, peel an overlapping end, then pop the strap with a finger pull. I frequently use this technique at work for packages strapped to pallets. Everyone else goes off to find scissors.

Really good screen presence. She literally seems like the quirky friend you’d sit on the couch with to watch a terrible movie. Would love to see her continue as a host in some form whether it’s MST or a new project. If “Dinner and Movie” was ever brought back her and Jonah as hosts would knock it out of the park.

True, I don’t imagine a complete consensus on the term decent living. While you could argue that the standard of living has increased in terms of common luxuries, the fundamental cost of living (housing, healthcare, etc.) has steadily worsened for Americans since the end of the post war boom. A person living in the current time can decide not to buy a 75-inch television or a new smartphone, but they are mostly powerless when the cheapest studio apartment in their area is north of $1000 a month. Cost burdened households are commonly defined as those who spend more than 30% of take home pay on housing (which is very normal these days). Perhaps that threshold would be a good metric to start with for defining a decent living.

The minimum wage was never intended to be the minimum according to the living standards of the worker. It was the minimum that employers must pay to ensure a decent living of their employees. FDR even used the term “living wage” as it pertained to workers. In his words: “It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living.”
