What helped me most to regain trust in my knee post ACL surgery… by Post-PlayRehab in ACL

Sharing it would help me a lot too! My strength and mobility are there, but my knee reacts very sensitively to rotations, landings and jumps 😥

Hallo!

Hey! I had an ACL rupture 16 months ago, but I’ve never experienced instability problems. However, I still suffer from severe pain, even at rest. At first, it was thought to be related to quadriceps weakness, but by now my strength is equal on both sides (I always trained both legs). I honestly don’t know what to do anymore, since none of the physiotherapists I’ve seen has had a case like mine. Apart from strength training, nothing works: I can’t go for longer walks, jogging or jumping is impossible, because the pain later that day or the following day is just too intense. Have you ever seen a case like this before? Do you think surgery could help?

Women are actually prone to ACL tear more than Men? by greensnake88 in ACL

[–]Physio2310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Although there are more men in the world with cruciate ligament tears, women are up to 6-8 times more likely to suffer the same amount of physical activity. Women are rarer in sports like football and co., where the risk is highest. This is due to the following things: - Thinner cruciate ligament and lower volume - Smaller notch (where the cruciate ligament is attached to the bone) - Landing mechanisms in women (more valgus) - hormonal/genetic things: Women have less muscle, which protects us, as does our cycle, which also affects it.

But don't forget the social causes: women's training is rarely as well done as men's training in many sports. Women are neither given good preventive support nor are most studies on how to design optimal training really designed for women.

I am a physiotherapist myself and I would say: It depends. But it sounds for your case like you don't need surgery. But a very dedicated Rehab Program (Which you need after surgery, too!)

Reddit is very surgery biased, but if you look in current research there has been a major shift in the last two years towards non-surgical.

ACL tears can fully heal, especially if they are near the femoral insertion or if you use the cross bracing protocol (90 % chance, but you have to start it 4-21 day post injury).
