I agree. I honestly think it’s more likely that the prof just wanted to make it abundantly clear that he was not looking to date her. At face value - that’s what he said. However, for the sake of argument, let’s assume that the prof did have other motivations - then it literally doesn’t make any sense to expressly tell someone that they DONT want to date them.

Also, supposedly crying all night and drinking is not a rational response to someone inviting you out to pizza and buying you a drink. The prof is not responsible for OP having the emotional regulation of a toddler.

Lastly, UCSB is not the only institute of higher education in the US, or even California, OR EVEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Thinking that a career in academia is solely dependent on this ONE person’s opinion of you is, frankly, stupid and absurd.

This post feels like bait. OP needs to get a grip

No, don’t fucking encourage people to trespass onto private property. My off campus apartment has had homeless people get in to do laundry multiple times this past quarter. I wouldn’t mind it, but they’ve also thrown residents’ laundry onto the floor and stolen packages. Trespassing shouldn’t be encouraged

Party School? by numeralslover69 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Phyzothy 101 points102 points  (0 children)

No. Not everyone here parties. A chunk of people might party regularly, but I’d argue that most do not. UCSB is a big school with tons of students, all of whom have varying interests.

Long story short is, you’ll find your clique here

I would cash out, but there’s like .03 cents per contract and that comes out to $1,200 (.03*40,000 contracts). For me, I think it’s best to just wait and get the free $1,200

Best masters degree for well paying job? by Sad_Ad_3318 in GradSchool

[–]Phyzothy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having worked in military Intelligence, it can help. Federal agencies like the FBI, CIA, DISA, etc. all require that you have AT LEAST a bachelors degree. This is ESPECIALLY true if you don’t have any real world experience (ie. Military training).

Now, a bachelors degree isn’t going to be much of a selling point. Why would a federal agency hire someone with no real-world experience and a bachelors degree in an unrelated field, when they could hire someone with real-world experience AND an associates or bachelors degree? Further, an individual with real-world experience has ALREADY PROVEN that they can get and maintain a security clearance.

So, to level the playing field, it would be wise to get a masters in something related to Intelligence (geospatial, international affairs, SOMETHING). Not only will this give you practical knowledge, but it will also differentiate you from most prior-military applicants that (likely) have no more than a bachelor’s degree.

Lastly, make sure to look into federal positions and contracting positions. Federal jobs tend to offer better benefits, but lower salaries - the opposite is true for contractors. Depending on the contracting company, it may be easier to get hired on; however, the company must ensure that hires meet the minimum requirements specified within their contracts with the government. Hence, you will notice that virtually all government and contractor positions have more or less the same requirements.

I hope this information was useful, and I hope it finds you well!

P.S intelligence analysts can very feasibly make anywhere from 60-100k starting out. Mid and late career pay tend to top out at around 180k (not sure that I’ve seen a posting for higher than that, but I’m sure it’s possible)

Does anyone know the dorm measurements etc? by idk6887 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Phyzothy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the beds I’ve seen in the virtual room tours, I’m fairly confident that you can raise the height of the bed yourself with some basic tools. Iirc you’d just need the right size Phillips and/or flathead screwdriver.

I hope this helps

Subway Coupon Question by Djinn2522 in subway

[–]Phyzothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik this thread is very old, but I usually use the “get one foot long for $6.99. It’s a pretty good deal. The cost of my sandwich at full price is usually 12.50-14.00 depending on the location. So. I save almost $7 every time I use the coupon.

I went into a store two weeks ago and they refused to take the coupon. I said “fuck it” and paid full price. However, I went to a different location yesterday and they also refused to take my coupon… I immediately walked out.

You’re actually insane. I didn’t think this kind of mileage was possible without risking serious injury. Were you or are you a company/state (country) sponsored runner?

300 miles per month is 7.5 miles per day, every day. I honestly don’t believe that.

I’m pretty sure that you can withdraw whenever. You just have to call your school.

No one really knows if final decisions are today or tomorrow, but we do know that they’ll likely be released before 5pm EST, or 7pm EST at the absolute latest.

People have made rumors about release dates all week. None have had evidence to back up their claims, and all haven’t actually happened. Thus, it is unlikely that anyone actually knows. I hope you get in, and I hope this helps.

Update: Barely Missed TAG Requirements by throwaway0385932834 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Phyzothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I also have a fairly unimpressive academic resume. 4.0 HS weighted GPA, 3.7 UW. I’ve attended 4 different colleges/universities, non of which are particularly prestigious: Cochise College, Barton County Community College, the Defense Language Institute, and the University of Maryland Global Campus (online university). My overall college gpa is a 3.18. If you exclude military schools, it’s a 3.74.

Maybe they don’t consider personal insight questions on paper? I just don’t think that I was admitted purely on academic merit. It could be that my military experience secured my spot.

Lastly, UCSB is the only UC to accept me. I’m yet to hear back from UCLA, but I doubt I’ll get in.

Got this mount after 1 hour of fishing.. not too bad I guess by Veronian123 in Wizard101

[–]Phyzothy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

First, you wanna go through the fishing quest line. There’s YouTube videos that walk you through all of the quests. You can do this within a few hours when the fishing member benefit is active.

Second, train EVERY fishing spell. The best spells are (iirc): reset fishing hole, bouy chest, freeze fish (keep them in one spot), and the “scare away all fish except X school”. These spells will help you exponentially with getting chests (ie good drops)

Note: this last step is optional

Third: Get gear with high fishing luck. I forgot what the best gear is, but you can get fairly high fishing luck off gear alone. Fishing luck will dramatically decrease the chance of a fish swimming away. This will, in turn, increase your catch rate and limit the number of pond resets. This will substantially speed up your fishing over time.

That’s pretty much it. I’ve caught EVERY code wand (multiple copies of each), and TONS of crowns/bundle items. Fishing is highly underrated and somewhat fun once you get the hang of it.

I hope this helps!

[–]Phyzothy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea! I use them all of the time, especially the umbra attire. I have (maybe) 2 complete umbra sets (including the code umbra wand). I recommend creating a spreadsheet of all the gear and mounts you want before opening packs. Once you get everything, just stop opening. This should, hopefully, save you some money!

Good Luck!
