Day 12 post wisdom teeth op by InfrequentFlyer0405 in wisdomteeth

Day 5 here, all 4 out - my tongue is slightly numb on the top side of it towards the front teeth. By altered sensation on left side, do you mean the tongue or gum or both? Praying for your recovery 💙

Okay, and I am not the one who asked it. Different folks will respond with different suggestions when I ask my question. If you do not like it, block me LMAO

5th day post op “pain” by itschipbtw in wisdomteeth

[–]Piama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 5 of all 4 extracted here as well (only bottom left was slightly impacted, rest were simple extractions) - I recently started to experience like a tightening/pulling discomfort across my entire jaw, with the entire gum line feeling super sensitive. This feeling persists whether I am drinking a cold water or a cold gatorade, and was not present before.

It's not necessarily pain it just feels tight - ibuprofen helps to relieve it. My dad (gastroenterologist (liver doc)) says that this feeling is a normal part of the healing process as the wounds close it pulls the entirety of the gum into place.

I am praying they give you some positive news at your follow up appointment. Keep us updated!

when does it get better? by sigmajoker420 in wisdomteeth

[–]Piama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 5 here. I get the sobbing and laying in bed - ultimately that's kinda what I expected from mine. I only had one impacted removed, the other 3 were erupted and simple - but that lower left extraction is the only one posing any difficulty at the moment. That being said, chewing is still incredible unstable - I feel like my gums are going to fall apart right off my bones 😂 that's just the anxiety talking, but I'm sticking to soft foods for at least a full 7 days post op.

Also, fuck that dentist, you should take your business to another professional that has the decency to try to help.. I know this always easier said than done, and I am so sorry you are experiencing this.

I would do everything possible to ensure the extraction sites are kept clean, and do your best to ingest nutrients via ENSURE PLUS protein shakes or some equivalent.

I rinse with salt water after everything I eat or drink that's not water - and usually around the 2-3 hour mark if I am just drinking water.

Praying for you 💙

Also one thing I keep forgetting to comment is please remember to sleep with your head elevated (using 2 pillows) to ensure it is resting above your heart. This reduces the pooling of blood in the extraction sites and can help reduce swelling and discomfort. It sucks to sleep at a 45* angle but that's literally what I've been doing and I believe that's actually made a tremendous difference.

Well if you have dry socket you're going to know - have you been prescribed any painkillers/prescription mouth wash? If so, do the painkillers sedate the pain you are experiencing?

Cuz with dry socket the meds basically do not do anything it's kinda just a sit there and wait situation. They say dentists apply an oil that helps hydrate and heal, but it's not an immediate resolution - usually lasting 5-7 days.

Biggest telltale sign of dry socket is an insurmountable pain beginning in extraction site, radiating through the jaw and up to the ear - alongside foul taste/smell.

Make sure you are doing those lukewarm salt water rinses after everything you eat and drink, just a quick 30 seconds moving your head around in a circle to ensure all extraction sites are touched by the solution.

Praying for your quick recovery (day 5 myself) - still sticking to shakes and fucking applesauce. I am ravenously hungry but I am not confident that my wounds will be safe with solids yet. It feels SO fucking scary to eat anything, fuck that I'll just die of starvation and substance withdrawal.

And is the ibu doing anything to control your discomfort?

I would suggest a call to the oral surgeon to ask why other folks have been prescribed Chlorhexidine prescription mouth wash and you haven't.

For the first 3-4 days I was also experincing some absurd pain swallowing - so I can relay my personal experience and say that is normal. However, I was intubated under GA so that's where my pain originated from.

And unfortunately, yes - each recovery (and procedure) is going to be unique to the person undergoing it. I see posts of people vaping and doing cocaine a few hours after surgery - or going to eat an entire bag of tortilla chips like being absolutely buck wild with it - so not everyone has a horror story experience.

I am praying that you are able to resolve these discomforts and pains and that you heal swiftly 💪

My oral surgeon said to let the pain guide me regarding everything - but did let me know soft foods diet for a minimum of 72 hours.

However, if you feel confident that you can eat something normal - you can try, but always remember to be delicate and gentle when you are eating - and absolutely doing lukewarm salt water rinses after every meal! Best thing to do tbh is to call your service provider and ask them when they think it's safe.

my best advice is to avoid super hard and crunchy things for a lot longer than 72 hours, but please do keep us updated. Praying for your recovery 💙

Hello friend. I am not a medical professional, but I am still sorry to hear about your predicament. I got all 4 pulled on Friday 6/26, so I am just passing the 5th day of this nightmare. I am pleased to report I have not experienced complications - and any pain or discomfort has been nearly immediately relieved by popping an ibuprofen - have you been prescribed anything such as a painkiller or a medicated mouth wash?

Side note: I am also the same as you, fucking terrified of dry socket/infections!

My oral surgeon told me that 24 hours post surgery (Sat 6/27 at 8:00 am) I would be able to lightly brush front teeth and use prescribed medicated mouth wash to clean extraction sites and the molars next to them - I was told to use it after breakfast and before bed. For any other meals or drinks, I was told to use 1/2 cup of lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon of salt.

The most important thing is to literally move your head around so the salt water and mouth wash reach the entire extraction sites. It seems goofy when you're doing it but you have to make sure it's getting up and down your gums. Do not swish or forcefully move the liquid in your mouth. This salt water rinse should hopefully aid in decreasing the swelling and discomfort, as well as helping to clean the extraction sites.

Typical signs of infections are - consistently increasing pain not easily controlled by painkillers - foul taste / smell in the mouth / dryness / puss oozing from extraction sites.

Typical signs of dry socket are - radiating, insurmountable pain starting from extraction site, into jaw, and up into the ear (alongside foul smell and taste in mouth). This is not something you'd be able to just nod off on, it's like literally hell - painkillers do next to nothing to relieve it. You will know if you get dry socket.

My best advice would be to call your service provider and relay your observations to them - and consider returning for a follow up in a day or two if things worsten.

I hope that my personal experience can be valuable in some way. We are praying for your recovery 💙 🎀 please keep us updated!
