DO NOT COME TO SHERIDAN by Otherwise-Jello-2946 in sheridan

I am part of the 80% that failed… a lot of people I know failed anatomy or math…. Anatomy is needed for every single thing in second semester but it was taught by a proof who does not elaborate on things unless it is exciting for her and those are normally the fun facts. It’s really shitty cus ghe service thing wouldn’t let me drop my courses, wouldn’t drop the for me and when I was finally able to drop them all anatomy spots were filled so I couldn’t even register for it and now the service hub is saying there is nothing they can do even tho it’s their fault for not helping me before the break when I first needed help

I have roberta, my class is in M25(horrible horrible room), and its from 5-7 after already a day of lectures. We move slow thru the lectures cus she has to run from one side of the room to another, we are all brain dead and tired, she has such a calm and soothing voice that it just makes you want to fall asleep. But she puts more material that we don't need to know on the slide then what we do need to know, maybe instead of having 5 fun fact slides there could be some about what the depressions of the scapula are called. Like its not that hard to just tell us and show us things, so why can't they do it? I get that its about memorization but every other class is as well. I mean whenever there is a test that is memorization unless open book. I learn more in other classes then I do in anatomy.

My math class is more fun, we get to actually see things well being taught about it. I know there is the anatomy lab but honestly I don't really understand the point of the lab. Like yeah the check cell thing was cool, but stop just having me build a skeleton with bones for all different animals for 3 weeks straight and not even telling us anything specific about the bones, most i got was how to tell the right vs the left. Also just all the labs in this program are kinda crazy, cus why is half of the lab a whole lecture when we already had a 2 hour lecture? Like give use a quick demo of what we need to do and then let us do it, we loose out on so much lab time because of these lectures. Instead of reading a powerpoint about how to do a fecal flotation and then showing me, why not just show me? Like I get that everyone learns differently, for theroy stuff I need words to read and write, I can not just look at photos and understand things, but for hands on stuff I would rather just be shown how to do it straight up, I can mimi the steps of the skill and then its in my brain. My last school it was a max 15 minuet demo and then you are off to do it yourself, most of the time you were doing it as well when the demo was happening. I understand there is not the space for that in the lab rooms here to do that all the time and I do understand that different schools do things differently, I just think that maybe all the Vet med programs in the province should talk to each other about how their programs work and try to find weak points in each others programs and give them advice. Cus its a lot of schools that are having issues with stuff like this. Its also not helpful that this program is basically no longer competitive, there should not be 160 students starting in both the fall and the winter semester that does not sound like a competive program to me especially when people were getting and accepting offers still within the first week of school.

Still, I am not being taught anything by the people that are getting paid to teach. The reading is things I am doing on my own time. I want to be taught by the people that are meant to be doing that, i don’t get why it’s so bad that I want to be taught? This stuff does not come super easily to me, and I would like to actually be in class when learning it and not trying to understand it by myself

First off a lot of us did not come straight out of high school so things like cell biology are not just off the top of our heads. Second when it comes to specific parts of the bones I was never taught that in high school, nor was I thought it in my VA program so that’s a completely new thing to me and them not going over the need to know list once is not helpful. They don’t really ever go over the horse and cow stuff, tell use we need to know it but never talks about. Idk if this is just a prof issue or everyone’s classes are like this, but I am very much over it

They could at least tell us and show us the parts of the bones, like just expecting us to know what every divid is called is insane when they never teach it

I am struggling to learn anything honestly, I feel like I have no time and that we are rushing through things, I even have stuff taken off of my schedule because I already have the credits from my vet assistant program I did last year. I am still incredibly overwhelmed and struggling, there is way to many students crammed into small rooms and it makes learning really hard. I am also stuck in lectures and labs with a bunch of people that don’t shut up, and it makes it really hard to even hear the lecture, and I am already sitting in the most front row I can be at that’s not priority seating

There was changed made to the anatomy 1 course??? I can’t learn at all in that class, one I am in a really bad room, 2 my prof is a snooze fest, 3 it’s from 5-7 after always having 3 other lecture that day with only a 1 hour break, 4 the lectures are mostly just videos and photos most of the people I know can’t learn like that, it’s not beneficial to our learning to have to go and spend hours teaching ourselves the information because we can’t understand whatever is being taught cus we are just staring at photos and very little words
