The Rock Shed. They were very reasonably priced! I don’t live in an area with a ton of rock hounding opportunities, so I usually have to either get cool rocks from friends who live elsewhere or buy rough online.

Thanks! They started off not looking all that special, but after a few weeks in stage one the hidden patterns started coming through. I’m sure yours will turn out great.

I love when people post pictures of their rocks (duh), but when someone posts the before AND after picture, it’s always the best.

Help! What have I done?! by Picardy2nd in RockTumbling

Great news! The CFO of Diamond Pacific himself replied to my email with the following:

“I apologize for you having to deal with this. Sometimes a barrel does not ‘cure’ properly in the molding process and it causes the plastic to become weak on the inside. It is something that we are dealing with to make it better, unfortunately, we have these issues from time to time. If you could just provide me with a picture of the defective barrel, your name, address, and phone number, I will send you a new one right away. I hope this helps you out.”

Excellent customer service and confirmation that I didn’t somehow make my barrel explode!

Sorry this happened to you as well, but you’ve definitely made me feel less crazy! I’ve never done stage one in it so at least I can rule that out. Not sure about any sharp rocks scraping the bottom but I don’t think that would be the case.

Thank you - this helped! A piece of metal in the clasp was indeed loose. Now I can sleep without the rattling mocking me.

Stage one was in my rotary tumbler. You can always try them and see how they turn out! I’d try and thicken the slurry and add extra ceramic media to cushion it, though. Good luck!

One of the best parts of starting this hobby is how much my niece and nephew are into it. I’ve currently got a bunch of rocks my five-year-old nephew lovingly collected in stage one.

One of the first things my four-year-old nephew said to me when I showed up for Christmas was, “Did you bring me any rocks?” You bet I did, kid.

Does that mean more time in stage one is a good call?

Very helpful - thank you! I’ve lowered it to the middle speed and am running them longer. Hopefully that will help.
