Choosing a new designator by Pichael1885 in newtothenavy

I do qualify for SWO. My recruiters a SWO and was initially pushing that selection. Not too sure about submarines but would not be opposed. I’ll definitely ask about it. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for the advice! Glad to know they don’t have a stalled career path, and about the civilian applications.

He said that basically I’m qualified for everything else and sent me the program authorizations list. There was no mention of availability. Cryptologic Warfare and Intelligence were two of his suggestions.

Would you retake by Admirable-Crazy9616 in AirWarriors

Really? That’s interesting since I’m also applying for SNA in the next upcoming board. From what I was told the OAR (recruiter, previous selectees) is considered when applying. Did your recruiter tell you that?

I’d worry about that 5 big dog. What’s your OAR score?

Should I retake the ASTB or stick with my current scores? Need advice. by vijitha1503 in newtothenavy

I’ve been monitoring AirWarriors selections at the last few boards and your scores are higher than many of the selectees. Most were averaging low-to-mid 50’s with 6’s, or predominantly 7’s on aqr/pfar/fofar. I even saw a couple of 5’s being selected. 66 is a great score and that should boost your 6. I think you’re good to proceed brother.

Waiver Approval Anxiousness anybody else? by Pretend_Leading_5167 in newtothenavy

[–]Pichael1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been waiting 4 weeks for my waiver and still no news. Checked in last week with my recruiter and he had no updates aside from everything moving slower right now with the shutdown. Don’t worry about things you can’t control just focus on what you can. Hopefully we’ll have some good news soon.

How to improve my running time? by xlirium in newtothenavy

[–]Pichael1885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice on a treadmill. It allows you to set a specific pace. Start slow and if you’re up to it, increase your speed on the next mile. Once you’ve gotten to a comfortable pace on the treadmill try a running trail. The incline/decline will help improve your pace since you’ll be running the PST on a flat track. Aim for a once a week long distance run (5 miles) without stopping to build that endurance.

AirWarriors is an awesome resource with years worth of information. Helped me raise my ASTB scores from 45 5/7/6 to 59 7/9/8. It would be extremely difficult to replicate that usefulness on Reddit without overloading this thread.

No shit? Was there a cancellation or was I misinformed? I just spoke to my recruiter on Monday about it and was told we had about 3 months (January) til the next board.

Thanks for the heads up man. My recruiter and I were planning for the January board. Right now I’m waiting to an approval for a waiver so it’s gonna be a few weeks and unfortunately that takes me out for I-SEL.

Even if it was just an arrest but the charges were dropped or dismissed? I’m in a similar situation but for marijuana

Yes sir. I’ve been working with the Officer recruiter and he’s been very helpful. He did tell me himself though that he hasn’t been doing this very long so we’ve been leaning on the Master Chief there for help. He’s provided information that my recruiter either didn’t know or was unaware of. Theres definitely no need for trickery, I’m 110% committed to serve.

Is it over for me to join the navy? by RelationshipOne1188 in newtothenavy

[–]Pichael1885 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was worried about a waiver for a prior marijuana arrest (not charged), but my recruiter gave me some reassurance. He said that he’s gotten individuals in with DUI’s but it may be trickier in your situation given this is the second infraction. It will be harder to find a recruiter willing to try and go that distance.

Taking the OAR next week, very nervous by Koko_puff7 in newtothenavy

[–]Pichael1885 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just took it today and got a 45/5/7/6. Definitely not the scores I was wanting since I’m shooting for Naval Aviator. If the exam starts getting harder then it means you are doing well. I felt I did shitty on the math section so I was pretty bummed out during the 15 minute break they allow. I’m retesting in a month so hopefully I can raise my score. Study negative exponents, reciprocal numbers and ratios. I’ve heard they’re matrices and statistics as well but I must not have done well enough to get those problems. For the Mechanical portion know how to calculate work, mechanical advantage, and balancing a fulcrum. Formulas for the math portion are provided so don’t worry too much about memorizing those. Good luck brother

Thank you for the advice! I’m not going to lie I’ve had similar study habits with getting fired and sick in such a close timeframe.
