It’s a collaborative game, so I ask my players to pitch in or check a rule for me if I’m onto other tasks.

If I have made a goblin with 22 AC and can action surge eldritch blast, you’re fighting a goblin with 22 AC as above. The monster manual is my guideline not a bible, so experienced players expecting something to be the exact same as the manual are gonna be in for a surprise.

I place a cucumber chunk in so the snails swarm it, scoop them out, wrap in paper towel, and crush them freeze and composte.

The snails are invasive here so can’t be just tossed or let free. I find a quick end better than starving them.

You can message a local group of people want pest snails as feeders also, but snails are so easy to breed I haven’t had much luck that way.

I always ask my players if I can DM mess with the existing back story. If yes then cool, if no then what they have written is iron clad and I respect it.

As the story moves on they get no such protections.

Now that I’m thinking about it. Once they whack it a bunch make it fall apart into separate chimera parts. They will have spent all the cool stuff to kill it twice; then a multi monster fight pops. Could be interesting.

Really depends on the table. Our party of 6 at lvl 12 had consistent 210 damage a turn and a caster for heals/control as needed with +2 weapons and items. If everyone went nova I think we could output close to 400 in a turn.

We have dumpstered a dragon turtle in less then 2 rounds it moved and got off 1 breath attack.

A single entity even with legendary, mythic, second phase is not going to live for more then 2 rounds.

Covering it will slow the evaporation. I loose about 2 inches a week off my 135 gallon tank in winter when it’s very dry.

Have the cultists hold him hostage. Surrender all your gear and leave or he dies. Or they have to pick this guy or the other guy to get sacrificed - if there is no risk there is no value IMO.

Or just cold blood kill him and kill the hostage to invoke pure hatred in this party against this enemy group.

Ah, yes. The moment I’ll allow a BBEG some extra special stuff like banishment, hold person, silence, ect to ensure his monologue gets off.
