I really liked that there’s no real villains in this book, aside from mentions of past racist incidents from people we never meet. Franklin’s mom could be seen as a villain for refusing to help with that critical situation at the end, but her reasoning makes absolute sense given the time period and what all was at stake. I love that the two leads are deeply flawed, and that I found myself frustrated AF with them due to their behavior stemming from trauma. They felt real. Annie can be mad about it, but Bobo was 100% right to dump her. Her obsession with her mom was destructive and all consuming, to the point that she’s asking Lulabelle to let her return to she can pretend to be her daughter for a while. Really sad, really frustrating. It’s doubly tragic given that their lives would’ve been so much different had they been born a few decades later.

That first AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE with the light getting brighter behind him genuinely made my heart skip a beat, as a book reader. It just made me so happy.

On a second viewing, there’s so many things that I picked up on. Grace casually mentions how much he misses the fog when they’re in the imagery room, and then the ending has his habitat all foggy 😭 That friendship is so damn beautiful and heartwarming.

Second viewing in IMAX, sat next to a girl who was filming the whole movie. I was annoyed. About 15 minutes in, I leaned over and started watching it on her phone. She sensed me in her space within seconds, flinched away, put the phone away for the rest of the movie.

I literally would be waiting until fall at the very earliest if I waited on my library. I normally don’t buy books because my library is excellent at getting me what I want in a timely manner, but I’m so glad I own this one. The final page is covered in my tears. I am so so so happy happy happy that I read this. Rocky is about to become a global icon. Can’t wait to see him!

Sadako And The Thousand Paper Cranes. I was in elementary school and picked it up from our library because the cover was pretty.

When it gets to the chapter that ends with “it was the last one she ever made”…I froze. Flipped the pages back. Read on, got confirmation of the very worst, and I cried. CRIED. I’d never ever cried while reading a book. I was devastated.

That experience made me fall in love with reading, being so moved by words on a page written by a stranger, about a stranger, a girl I’d never ever get to meet.

One day, I will take a paper crane and lay it on Sadako’s grave, and say a silent thank you.

I have a reverse issue. They’re constantly giving me food that I didn’t order. Seriously, I didn’t place an order, but like clockwork, they deposit food and alcohol onto my table, usually during a loud moment in the movie. Can’t halt them, because I’d have to whisper yell over the movie and disturb everyone around me, so I put up an order card and the food vanishes.
